"In addition to a $36 million mortgage, the Orange County-based church owes $7.5 million to several hundred vendors for services ranging from advertising to the use of live animals in Easter and Christmas services."

This is outrageous abuse of church funds ! :screwloose

Real tragic ..... :shame

Tragic indeed.

I find it sad that some churches feel the need to spend more money and time to entertain the flock than preach the word.

Not too surprising though, considering the attention span of many is severely limited, and are easily bored.

"Ears dull of hearing" comes to mind.

I dont believe any of this for a second.

Someone high up in the church has done some major league swindling.

*sigh* Schuller has been mangling the witness of the church by pushing a false gospel and now his church is further hurting the cause of Christ by defaulting on loans and financial commitments that no true Body of Christ would incur. :bigfrown

Not exactly a great witness. But the building looks pretty.

If I recall isn't there a proverb that says 'owe no man anything' or something along those lines. In otherwords debt is not a good thing.

The whole 'borrow and have faith that God will pay for it' thinking has always bothered me. If God tells you to step out, that's different. But if you just do it because you want something and hope God catchs you..........

I've seen it preached and I've never liked it.

I remember hearing a message by Dr Yongi Cho once (pastor of the biggest church in the world) and in it he was telling the story of how God had led him to step out for a building (or more, don't remember) and God brought in all the finance. Then in his enthusiasm, he stepped out again for another building (skyscraper) because it was needed. Anyway the whole thing bombed and he ended up in so much financial and general trouble over it that he went up to the top of the unfinished roof and was getting ready to throw himself off it when God spoke to him.
He had missed the line between what God told him to do and thinking that that action was always ok.

(He didn't throw himself off, obviously, but he said it was a hard lesson.)

It was years ago that I heard that sermon but I never forgot it. The beauty of being able to learn from others mistakes :thumb

Paul says keep no debt outstanding except the debt to love
