Merry Christmas - Happy Holidays

Dave...

Will you shop at the stores who will not use "Merry Christmas" in their adds/stores but go the politically correct route only saying "happy holidays"?

It makes a difference?

Not like Christmas is the only holiday going on right now anyway.

lol
Hey, heard somewhere in the news that somebody wanted to change "Christmas tree" to "Holiday tree". Boston I think.
Maybe the Grinch really did steal the holidays.

Holiday cookies
Holiday eve
Holiday carols
Holiday cards
"The 12 days of the holidays"
"I'll be Home for the holidays"
Holiday decorations

Can't publicly play any carols refering to Jesus.

"It Came Upon a Midnight Clear"
"Silent Night"
"Oh Come, All Ye Faithful"
"O Little Town of Bethlehem"
"Hark! The Herald Angels Sing"

No good. Those gotta go.

We'll have to change any songs with the word "Christmas" in them to "Holidays". That oughta be a hoot. :D

OK. So we can sing those privately so we won't offend anyone. Well, as long as the place has no connection with the state or any public school or the military anyway. Don't sing them outside though. Someone might hear ya.

Quid,
As a matter of fact I will not shop at stores who will not use Merry Christmas in their store banners. The only reason they don't want to use the word Christmas is in my opinion because Christ is in the begining of the word and thats wrong.

Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God.

Or, you know, Christians aren't the only ones who shop there. Or should they make a sign for every holiday that's going on? Merry Christmas, happy kwanza, joyous Hanukkah, festive winter solstice, and whatever other holidays? Honestly, it's selfish to expect businesses to cater to a single religion. No one's forcing them to use happy holidays, it's their own choice because they care about all of their customers.

Heh, isn't this the real origin of this "holiday" season? :-?

Our most common tradition, the Christmas tree comes from the Romans. In honor of their god Mithras, they cut down trees and decorated them as Jeremiah mentions in Jeremiah 10:3-4, “For the customs of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel. They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter.†The decorated trees symbolized life and fertility but as Christmas replaced the Roman celebration the meaning changed to eternal life in Christ.

I'll take it one step farther, I won't shop at stores that try to exploit Christmas. Oh wait, that's all of them.... DOH!!

I don't even know why it matters. You can cover three holidays with one word, I'm not offended and I think its irrelevant. I'd be more up in arms over the dreaded "xmas" word but it seems to have died out.

But they're not exploiting Christianity specifically! Let's boycott them until they cheapen the meaning of Christ!

Though I could have sworn Christians have been fighting that for years. Must have been my imagination.

It's ok Quid; just a little tongue in cheek humor by Scott and myself. Up until recently, I shopped WalMart. They had one of the larger "Christian music" inventories outside of non-secular stores. I'm not liking some of their "policies" and actions lately though. I find Amazon.com carries a lot of Christian material, all year 'round too. Plus there's always CBD and a few other Chriatian online stores.

I despise Walmart. Not just because of not wanting to use "Merry Christmas", but because their employees are always rude (except for the door greeters. They're always polite and nice), the store is filthy and I have to stand in ridiculously long lines despite the 26 registers that they have. Why is it that only 4 are open though?

I was boycotting them after I heard how they (excuse the slang) screwed their employees over concerning hours and health insurance.

But, I just HAD to get one of those stick vacs they had on sale yesterday!
They were only $10! The wheels broke off mine 2 years ago and I've been putting off buying a new one.

Are you actually arguing that it is stupid to be upset by words while at the same time being upset by the word holiday?
