Michael Brown Speaks of New Orleans Devastation - In 2001?

Michael Brown, A writer who specializes in the supernatural aspects of the faith wrote an article in 2001 concerning the perils that New Orleans was in store for. He hits the nail righto n the head.

He spoke of a purification that was neccessary for NO unless the city repented. This labor day weekend there was to be a gay mardi gra's from what I understand. Interestingly enough Katrina means pure.

However, beyond these speculations is a more general acknowledgement that New Orleans, the epicentre of the disaster, was a "sin city" which harboured few rivals. The New Orleans "southern decadence" festival which was to take place Labour Day weekend, is described by a French Quarter tourism site as "sort of like a gayer version of Mardi Gras" which is "most famous (or infamous) for the displays of naked flesh which characterize the event," with "public displays of sexuality . . . pretty much everywhere you look."

The city is also renowned for occult practices, particularly voodoo. Voodoo is also common in violence and crime saturated Haiti.

The American Spectator reports that "New Orleans has one of the highest murder rates in the country. By mid-August of this year, 192 murders had been committed in New Orleans, 'nearly 10 times the national average,' ..

There's also a lot of immorality in Florida, so I'm going to predict a hurricane there the next few years. LA is a hotspot for debauchery, so they're probably in for an earthquake before long. Look at all the unsaved folks in Southeast Asia! They're destined for a monsoon in a few months if they don't change their ways.

Because nothing says "pure" like a thousands of dead bodies and destroyed homes!

New Orleans has a number of festivals to attract tourists and whatnot, but this disaster did not strike specifically one of these festivals. Instead it struck many citizens of New Orleans, including many economically disadvantaged people. Why would God do that when he could just destroy Vermont and Massachusetts for allowing gay marriage? Why not destroy Spain for the same reason? Why not obliterate San Francisco? Really, anyone who claims that a god is to blame for this is counting the hits and not the misses.

Never mind the destitution or despotism, its all in the Voodoo.

In the early 90s, DC had more than 450 murders per year. Nothing happened to it. In 2002, Chicago had 648 murders. I was in Chicago over the summer and no major plague seems to have befallen it. Again, counting the hits, ignoring the misses.

It's all just random occurances and God is not really in control? It doesn't matter what is going on whereever else. For these events are for us all. It is not about the people of New Orleans per sey.

The judgement is for us all. We will all be effected. God chastises those whom he loves as well.

Heb 12

4: In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.
5: And have you forgotten the exhortation which addresses you as sons? -- "My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor lose courage when you are punished by him.
6: For the Lord disciplines him whom he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives."
7: It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?
8: If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.
9: Besides this, we have had earthly fathers to discipline us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live?
10: For they disciplined us for a short time at their pleasure, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness.
11: For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant; later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
12: Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees,
13: and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed.
14: Strive for peace with all men, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.
15: See to it that no one fail to obtain the grace of God; that no "root of bitterness" spring up and cause trouble, and by it the many become defiled;
16: that no one be immoral or irreligious like Esau, who sold his birthright for a single meal.

This is not just about those in New Orleans. It is about you and I. 9-11 was a chastisement for me. I have gone through 17 mo. of unemployement with 8 kids to feed. God has provided. But it has been a trial. The effects of this will reach far beyond New Orleans.

I've not said and I don't think it is the right way to look at this to say, well he killed th sinners. We're all sinners.

2: And he answered them, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered thus?
3: I tell you, No; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.
4: Or those eighteen upon whom the tower in Silo'am fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who dwelt in Jerusalem?
5: I tell you, No; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish."
6: And he told this parable: "A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit on it and found none.
7: And he said to the vinedresser, `Lo, these three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down; why should it use up the ground?'
8: And he answered him, `Let it alone, sir, this year also, till I dig about it and put on manure.
9: And if it bears fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.'"
10: Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.

That God has been merciful for a season and now his hand of judgement falls is not a denial that he does not judge. He gives men time to repent.

We may have our differences, Thessalonian, but that was an excellent post!

thx. However since 75% of it was straight out of scripture, I'll simply praise God for his word.

Amen to that!!

I don't know if you're still unemployed or not now, but; I have been there as well in times past but, fortunately, only had two kids. It got so bad, I was washing cars in the neighborhood for cigarette money. May the God of peace and mercy extend His lovingkindness and grace unto you that employment will be ushered in soon.

I've been working for a year. We're still struggling from the financial strain however. Thanks for you sentiments and prayer.

Peace.

Amen to that Thess.

There's an old saying: "If God brings you to it, He'll get you through it".
Thanks for the little testamony Thessalonian.

I have a question concerning this post. Why do so many Christian people think that God is not a God of judgment and that He will not show His wrath? If God does not get angry because of sin then there would be no need of salvation. I just don't understand what people are thinking.
God destroyed men, woman, and children in the Old Testament. He even destroyed their animals. He hasn't changed. I think He has been pretty tolerable of our sins in America for along time. It isn't going to last forever. I'm thankful for people who will stand up and speak the truth. If it hurts peoples feelings then so what. Jesus hurt peoples feelings too.
