Modesty...

What do you think of when you think of modesty? Do you think Our society could use more or less Modesty or are we fine where we are?

Society definately needs more modesty. The good old days; don't you miss them.

I think modesty is something that's really lacking in our society today....Too many girls don't realize the effect that they're dress can have on guys. Especially has Christians, we should be concerned about not bringing our brothers temptation. If you're a strong Christian you're not going to look for a guy who's just going to look at your body and nothing else anyway....
So yeah.

Well, I do think most Americans (especially those living in the suburbs) are quite conceited, I don't think we're discussing that kind of modesty. In regards to the way women dress, I think they should clothe themselves as they see fit. Again, while I don't support the sort of prudishness others on the board might advocate, I think that many women who dress in an extremely revealing manner are insecure about themselves and are allowing themselves to be objectified. Both excessive "modesty" and the promotion of excessive reavealingness are the hallmarks of a patriarchy.

Wow, very informative post Chupacabra! I agree with you that immodesty is often a result of low self-esteem. I think often women and girls realize the "power" that they hold with the way they dress themselves, and they don't want to loose it. Also, too often they just don't know how guys' minds work, and the kind of effects their dress can have on others. Of course I'm not advocating that people go around covered from head to toe (hehe), but I do think that there are ways to be modest without having to go to the extreme.

Well, what it comes down to is how much you respect yourself and, most importantly, how much you respect the body God gave you. Men have a habit of being too revealing too, just not in the same way. Haven't you ever noticed how a guy who was puny, now pumped, starts to show off his body any chance he gets. As if he wasn't confident until he could show you that he can bench press you five times over. We need not be concerned with the way we look more than the impression we on people. Some one who shows off what the LORD gave them is not really trying to make people feel comfortable taking to them. My aim is to keep the attention off of myself and keep the focus on God.
