Money and Stuff

The economists tend to look at money as 'a store of value' and a 'means of exchange' and other such abstractions. I see it more as a rationing system, having been impecunious most of my life, and still today.

My question is; is it a fair and just rationing system? If so, why do so many suffer poverty while a fortunate few have so much? If not, is there a better way to allocate the world's resources?

Best wishes to you all, 2RM.

Barter's good. The problem is, if you want, say, a ferret to go rabbiting with, and want to exchange it for your bow and arrows with which you never managed to hit a rabbit, you have to find someone who has a ferret and wants a bow and arrows. The advantage of money is that it splits the transaction in two, so you can sell your bow and arrows to one person, who doesn't need a ferret, and use the money to buy your ferret from someone else, who doesn't need to want a bow and arrows. Or so the theory goes.

The ideal solution would be a gift economy, where anyone can have anything they want, and it's all provided free of charge. We do exactly that in families, for our children, to the extent we have have the resources. Just because we love them. I hope heaven will be like that!

Best wishes, 2RM.

Bartering is good in exchange for something you want in trading for goods and services if you do not have the money to spend. But like you said the one with the Bow could sell it and use that money to buy what he wanted.

As a few of you may know, I was a hateful man, a sinful man. Seeking my way through the darkness looking for salvation in worldly things, and evil things. Like Saul on the road to Damascus I was long gone on my journey of evil when the light of the Lord shone upon me on my prison death bed. Now brothers and sisters let me tell you; that bullet may have missed my heart.... but it struck my soul.

Not sure what this has to do with the topic of the OP, but none the less a good testimony.
