More malware "wiper" (Shamoon) targeting power companies

These are in the middle east from my understanding. But as if Stuxnet, Flame and Gauss were not bad enough, now we have Wiper, all within a short time. This malware not only steals information (seems to be more file related than personal from my understanding), but it also erases the hard drive and overwriting it with some sort of .jpg file. This makes it impossible to recover lost data. It also messes with the MBR making it impossible to boot up the computer rendering it next best thing for the trash heap. This software, and that like it (and any future ones) can only affect Windows computers such as XP, Vista and Windows 7 easily without a fighting chance. So far, this seems to be confined to the middle east but hopefully it won't happen here.
