Blacks were never barred from the church. They were not able to hold their priesthood or go to their temples but they were baptized members. Doesn't make it much better but we need to be accurate here. The reason this changed is because the federal government threatened to take away their tax exempt status unless they disolved this policy. Conveniently, shortly after the "prophet" received a "revelation."

Blacks were always allowed into our churches...they just weren't allowed to hold the priesthood. Huge difference. My ward in West Palm Beach is about 30% african american and another 40% hatian. Get your facts straight, don't just type what you've heard from your friends or relatives.

Ok my fault. thank you for the correction.

But the fact still remains that they were/are racist.

Did you know that the writer of the song "amazing grace" was at one point a slave trader? Did you know that down through the ages, many a Christian has used the Bible as a weapon to validate their racist beliefs and that this still goes on today? Why do you think the kkk burns crosses?

How about the westboro baptist church and their utter hatred of many different people?

Now, I am not trying to justify the practices of the mormon church as I think we all know where I stand on that issue but I think we need to be fair. I do believe that the lds church would be better served to come forward and repent of the sins of their past but todays mormon church is not racist. When we condemn a people because of their ancestors beliefs we will all stand condemned as we all have a history to be looked into.

Let's try and focus on today and what we can do for eachother today. I am most concerned with the relationship people today have with Jesus then what their leaders of years gone by had.

I hear what you are saying and I empathize with your pain. HOWEVER, be GLAD that they have this longstanding racism deep in their bones. It has saved COUNTLESS black people from falling into their false religion. It is probably the only example where racism had a net positive effect, if you think of this with an eternal perspective.

Frankly, I wish they hated all races equally and only allowed 6'8" tall people with one blue eye and one green eye who were born on Tuesdays when there was a full moon in a month beginning with the letter Q!

See? :)

My daughter is 10 years old and lives in Idaho, with her mother. Her Mom is remarried and active in the Morman church. She wants to tie or bind the family. I have read a little about this but am still a little confused on this.

1. Also can this be done without my permission?

Also when my daughter was here in Colorado this summer I asked her if she had been saved and understood what Jesus did for us on the cross.

She told me the "Mormons told her being saved is if your tied to railroad tracks and someone lets you go, that is what being saved is."

I was appauled by this statement and imediatly started reading the bible with her over the summer. My ex and I are currently battling over her salvation it seems to me.

Anyone advice would be most appreciated!

What they are wanting to do is be "sealed for time and all eternity" to eachother. This is a ceremony where they will go to an altar in the temple and the sealer will proclaim them a forever family. The good thing is that without WRITTEN permission from you, they cannot include your daughter in this ceremony.
