Thank you my friends for this reminder of a very important event in the history of the Nation of Israel and it's leaders. For me, it's a little sad because at the age of 120, Moses position as the sole leader with Jehovah, led the Nation thru the wilderness to this spot near the Jordan River and Moses' mission is over.

I say sad because in a couple of months, I'll be 77 years old. My role as the senior pastor has ended, and retirement is really a time to reflect on how to serve the Lord until He calls me home. Moses is retiring from chief leader, passing the golden cane to Joshua, he knows that it's close to the "end of the line" for Him. Unfortunately, I don't think that he knew as much as we do about what's on the other side of death.

Sometimes when I think that God would not let Moses go over the Jordan to the promised land, because the sin of striking the rock (Jesus) kept him out seems unfair compared to all the good Moses did. But then, God's business is not my business.

a tiny bit of reba paraphrasing :tongue

Remember...
Moses was 120 years old and a leader who brought the Law.
Then there's the theme of "first comes Judgement then comes blessings"

Moses was Judgement, Joshua was blessings
David was Judgement, Solomon was blessings
Elijah was Judgement, Elisha was blessings
John the Baptist was Judgement, Jesus was blessings.

No Judgement in the promised Land. :wink

Thanks John. I hadn't thought of it that way. Judgment in this life for me and my sins, nothing but blessings in the promised land. A great thought!!!

There's one other thing about Moses on a personal level.

Numbers 12:3

The word "humble" or meek (as sometimes said) is double entendre with Egypt AND miserable. All meaning the same thing in Hebrew. (Hey, it's a metaphoric language)

Allowing Moses to go to Heaven instead of having to lead the Israelites any longer would be a relief to him. He hated the job the whole time. (Why he struck the rock).

These people were annoying Moses the whole time. Anyone who opposed him or Aaron openly and publicly died or was soundly embarrassed into submission.
Even his wife was an annoyance.
