Motherhood on the farm...

Our daughter is almost 13 now and is growing to be a beautiful young woman. So, naturally, we have no dearth of cute guys that are taking more than a passing interest in her, keeping her daddy and I in a state of perpetual anxiety.

I'm not too worried, we have a good relationship and we communicate well. We've had many talks about love, sex, responsibility, etc. and she has a good head on her shoulders. But, especially now that we have the phone ringing off the hook and are in a social swirl of Junior High dances and activities, helping her make the right choices in life is always at the forefront.

Well, she has been begging and begging to be able to raise a calf of her own. Since all the new heifers out there now are sired by our bull, it's time to get a new bull. So, she talked us into buying a baby bull, she can raise it, and get the money from the first calf of his that we sell. Which is a good deal, we took her up on it, and she and her daddy went yesterday to buy the new baby.

Poor little thing. What, with being separated from his mommy, trundled off to the sales yard, and put through the trauma of an auction, and a long ride to a strange place, the little fellow was terrified. Our daughter and her daddy were out there until well after 9:00 last night trying to get the little guy calm enough to eat. She finally got him calmed down enough to eat, and came in for her own, very late dinner, exhausted.

Then she had to get up at the crack of dawn, get dressed and get out there to feed the little guy again. She came in for a late breakfast and settled down to watch the new movie her brother got for his birthday, and guess what? Yep, the little guy is ready to eat again. :yes

As I was ever so gently laughing at her as she prepared yet another bottle of forumla, I said, "Hey, welcome to motherhood, dear. Think about this the next time one of those cute guys of yours is giving you that "come hither" look." Her response: "Sheesh, I'll be telling him to go jump in the lake!"

:lol

Look at the bright side Dora... she won't be wanting to bring home and keep stray cats anymore. ;) :lol
