Are there any other motor heads out here or am I the lone muscle head?

Anyway, thought I'd shift gears here cause to be honest, I don't have the time I'd like to devote at the moment to get involved with some of the stuff going on in this forum. So, I'm quick on my toes with old muscle and I'm getting excited because after spending most of last summer and fall, I'm almost ready to fire up my new engine!

As some of you may know, I own a 1968 Camaro SS wannabe :D I tore the whole front end apart and got a ton of cash in to this beast that most would call a waste. It's a passion of love I tell ya

Anyway, I hope to get the car started Friday nite. I got the engine to crank last night but found a leak where the thermostate goes into the head so I gotta fix that. Ohh, and I've got to rig a gas tank but that's going to take an extra 2 feet of gas line and a couple hose clamps... Should have it tonight he he he :)

For those of you wondering... The engine should put out right around 470 plus ponies. It's gonna scream! It's a small block 350 with 10:1 forged pistons (.030) with a solid lift cam, roller rockers, wienend high rise, holly 850 blah blah blah, money money money built and paid in full by yours truly :bday:

Let me know if anyone want to see some pics 8-)

Well, I can tell by the masses that this is one hot topic! Wowww Weee!!! :-D :-D :-D

Anyway, Got her running on Friday nite! I'll post a few pictures for those that don't really want to see them anyway 8-)

So anyway, I fire her up for the first time ever and I'm trying to set the timing when Wham!!!! my spark plug wire comes loose from the msd electronic distributer and I get whacked by 45,000 volts from the 6al and blaster coil! Man, talk about jumping! I'll take 110 any day of the week :o

So, I get the timing almost dialed in and she's purring along when she springs a leak from the thermostate housing. No big deal, I just put a towel down and soak it up cause I'm not going to stop my break in for a minor leak. (That's what I get for using used parts with new). Anyway, then all of a sudden the fuel filter blows off and I have fuel shooting all over my nice newly painted engine compartment.. ooyyy :smt010

So, 15 minutes into the break in I gotta shut her down and do my repairs. I'll tell you what, anyone that's a car nut would have loved to have been there. 470 raw hp being fired (540 lift) up in a 1200 square foot garage with open headers was not only deafning, the fumes were magical :smt055

Stove bolts,

What language are you typing in? :o lol I like the muscle cars, they are great. I am a girl and really do not care to know much about the inner workings, but my dad raised me and I had to know how to tune up a car, change the oil, and change the break pads...and absolutely be able to handle a manual shift. All of this before I was "prepared" or allowed to drive. DADS! I was the only 14 year old girl helping her dad in the garage. I appreciate it now, but hated then. :sad

Love the picture...I hope you get all the wrinkles ironed out.

Jeff, I just like to drive cars fast and preferably newer ones

My husband drag raced for 24 years. He had a 23 T bucket roaster that him and his father built. He ran the 1/4 mile in 7.62 at a 172 miles per hour.
When he sold his race car he used some of the money to buy a 57 chevy four door no posts. Sorry I don't have a picture I can post of it.

Maybe I can get some pictures of both and post.....

I like Old and New cars and I like fast ones.... My wife does too.

However we drive a Honda Accord... It is probably for the best...

Keeps me from getting tickets. :D

Having been a teen in the 70's, I dream often of getting back into one of those beauties that we used to take for granted. I'm thinking that a 442 Cutlass would be nice, but at the top of my wish list would be '67 Impala SS, 396 C.I. preferably. I also kind of liked the old 'cudas.

Back in the mid-80's my brother and I used to mess around with Datsuns- I had a 1976 280z coupe and 79zx. We took the fuel injection off the '76 and hooked up Webber DCOE sidedrafts. We made a few other internal modifications.

We had a lot of fun telling the big block enthusiasts that the car that just blew their doors off had like 148 C.I.s

Hey Lovely,
Me just speaking gearnuts :-D My Dad drove semi truck and I remember steering it down the highway when I was a wee lad. I got to drive "Team" (we drove 24 /7. He drove, I sleep. I sleep, he drive) with him when I was 21 and he really taught me how to handle a stick! When i was 12, me and a few 'friends' were out 'finding' cars to 'test' our abilities with... I remember this one 72 Chevelle... he he he. As long as we put the keys back and kept it clean, it was there for about two weeks

Judy,
I'd love to see some pictures! Man, 7's is krazY! I'm looking for 12's (without NOS) with a set of slicks. Next year, I wanna do a mini tub so I can get some phatter tires so I might get low 12's, maybe high 11's. [not bad for a street car] Nice thing about Mi is that we don't have emissions and being the car state... well, lets just say that there are a few 8 - 10 second cars driving around town on any given day 8-)

I think my favorite new car is the 06 Vette Z06. Man, that's one mean car!

Ha! Yeah BB, I could see you in a Honda 8-) But your part of the country has some good roads and you can't really beat the handleing!

OC,
I grew up tearing apart old Volvo's. My Dad had the largest inventory on the West Coast back in the early 80's. I've played with a lot of B-18's, and 21's with duel SU's and only got to play with a set of Webers once. My brother is like my Dad where he can tune em in by ear, put the guage on em, and they are perfect every time!

Right now, my brother has a 54 (?) Volvo 544 with a modified B-21. It's give most stock BB cars a run for their money!

Speaking of Impala's, Growing up, there were two 64's sitting in an old field. I think I used to throw rocks at them walking to school he he he. Anyway, When I was 19, I went to the guys house to see if I could buy them. To my delight, the guy only wanted $500 bucks for the both of em! This was like on a Tuesday. When I came back on Friday with my cash, these two cars that had been sitting there since I could remember were sold!

I thought I'd post a few pictures.
Between the fuel line spraying all over the place and the anti freeze... She aint as pretty as she was... I plan on [one day] really decking out the engine compartment with blue braided lines and new valve covers when money permints. I've still got to get spark plug wire insulators so they don't burn on the exhaust.

Ohhh, Lovely, see that round red thing with MSD written on the top with the wires coming out of it? (That's the distributor) It hooks up to that other red thing to the right (coil) which in turn hooks up to that rectangular box on the wheel well [with the white wire coming off it, to the left]. Anyway, those wires coming out of the distributor are pushing 45,000 volts and man do they pack a punch. ouch!!

This is a picture of my corner of the garage... (it's the dirty cluttered corner) Maybe, just maybe I'll get the car of jack stands this year!
The front fenders are held on with two bolts right now. I plan on replacing them. I know the car doesn't look like much, but I tore her doen last year to the frame and replaced every bushing, sanded every crevice and replaced every moving part. I've converted from front drum brakes to disc with power brakes and replaced every front end part minus the a-arms. (but I replaced all the bushings with polygraphite).

I got to test drive!!!! 2006 Z-06 / 500 hp. 0-60 in 3.8 seconds. Quarter mile time in the mid 11's! This eats any Hemi!
Actually, it's being classed above the Ferrari for performance and handeling! Next runner up is the lamborghini

All I can say is... What a rush! 130 mph feels like 55 :-D

Here's what Auto Week had to say!

I miss my '57 chevy with it's 283 4 barrel :crying: ... The thrush mufflers kept the neighborhood ALIVE!

:smt070 :smt072 :smt071 :smt072 :smt067 :smt072 :smt068 :smt072

"Those were the daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaays!"

283 huh  That was a mean little beast!

I remember my first car ever. It was a 1966 El Camino with a two barrel 283 :-D Ha, I spray painted the whole car red! Boy, she sure looked good at nite! I think it originally came with a 283 also, but she was tired so the first thing I did was plop a (not as tired) 307 in her.

When I finally got rid of the car, she was going through 3 quarts of oil every 100 miles or so and I had to boil water in the winter to thaw the radiator out so I could start it! :o

Car after that was a 64 Volvo  Then a 71 Nova RS with a built 350 by yours truly :bday:

I like them, don't have any clue how to work on them. Whenever I hear a gearhead talking I usually just nod in agreement and say things like "That's cool."
