Friends and protectors (S 5:51)

Pickthall: O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for friends. They are friends one to another. He among you who taketh them for friends is (one) of them. Lo! Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk.

Yusuf Ali: O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily God guideth not a people unjust.

Shakir: O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people.

Sher Ali: O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for friends. They are friends of each other. And whoso among you takes them for friends is indeed one of them. Verily ALLAH guides not the unjust people.

Arberry: O believers, take not Jews and Christians as friends; they are friends of each other. Whoso of you makes them his friends is one of them. God guides not the people of the evildoers.

Those who believe (in that which is revealed unto thee, Muhammad), and those who are Jews, and Christians, and Sabaeans - whoever believeth in Allah and the Last Day and doeth right - surely their reward is with their Lord, and there shall no fear come upon them neither shall they grieve.

SHAKIR: Surely those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the f Christians, and the Sabians, whoever believes in Allah and the Last day and does good, they shall have their reward from their Lord, and there is no fear for them, nor shall they grieve.

113. Not all of them are alike; a party of the people of the Scripture stand for the right, they recite the Verses of Allâh during the hours of the night, prostrating themselves in prayer.

114. They believe in Allâh and the Last Day; they enjoin Al-Ma'rûf (Islâmic Monotheism, and following Prophet Muhammad ) and forbid Al-Munkar (polytheism, disbelief and opposing Prophet Muhammad ); and they hasten in (all) good works; and they are among the righteous.

115. And whatever good they do, nothing will be rejected of them; for Allâh knows well those who are Al-Muttaqûn (the pious - see V.2:2).
 
Thanks Muhsen.... you show clearly the contradictions in Muhammad's sayings and thinking. At first, he says that Muslims should go to "People of the Book" to get understanding and to check his message. When the Jews and Christians expose Muhammad as a false prophet, he then rejects them, curses them and utters his vindictive sayings "Take not the Jews and the Christians for friends. They are friends one to another."

Jesus said: "You will know them by their fruits."

Muhammad's fruits are rotten.

There are no contradictions at all. These verses are proofs for you that Islam is peaceful with the kind people who do not show aggressions to Islam.

Here's your contradiction.

You do not attack those who don't porvoke Islam, yet four palins hijacked by Muslims wound up killing several hundred people. Most of who had not done a thing to provoke or attacking muslims. You may say those are the extremists, but why then do Alms go to supporting these groups instead of those in need?

Hi Brutus,
1- Some Muslims behaviors don’t reflect Islam teachings as some Christian do not reflect Christianity teachings, you agree with that, do you?
2- Who told you that our Alms go to the bad groups this is not accurate
3- Regarding 11- September, as I told many times, I don’t think it’s from the extremists, it’s a trick has been made by USA to justify aggression other country.

2. It May not be all Muslims, but My Muslim friend has told me as fact that there are muslims who feel giving to Al queda and Hamass fulfill the Alms pillar.

3. They were muslims. What you think doesn't make your though fact.

this means in terms of allies as in political and in war situations. do you REALLY think that it is practical to say that you cant have a personal friend who is christian or jew? how would we ever get them to revert and become muslim if they do not know us personally? muslims can after all , MARRY christians and jews! islam is logical, this verse like many others you have posted need to be taken in CONTEXT. that is the word of the day for you gary.

Side note: When mohammed died. he stayed dead. When Jesus died. He came back 3 days later. PROOF that Mohammed was just a man, and Jesus was god in human form.

THere is no Allah. Jesus was the son of God. the REAL god.

Muhsen, I have a hard time taking your reassurances seriously. That there are some reasonable and peaceful Muslims, I have no doubt. I see some here who refelect reason and patience, such as The Student. But you claim Islam has taught you peace- if so, apparently, you slept through that class. Your words from less than 3 weeks ago:

By your reasoning, any Christian at any time could be fairly killed at any time, for there will ALWAYS be someone violating Muslim- and Christian women. Your hypocrisy is that you brush off the victimization of Hindu women, Chistian women, atheist women...

If Islam is a religion of peace, and perhaps it is, it has a great number of poor pupils, you among them, to all appearances.

is this what christianity teaches you? to condemn others? or rather should you be trying to reach and reason with others? what would jesus do?

so tell me, before jesus was on earth, what did people believe in? did hte jews not pray to ONE God? what about Abraham? did he pray to Jesus or God?

Allah, Eloh and Alaha are simply the respective words for GOD in Arabic, Hebrew and Aramaic. just so you FULLY understand this, heres a diagram:

God = Allah
Eloh = Allah
Alaha = Allah
Yahweh = Allah

so in context, an ARABIC christian will say 'ISA BIN ALLAH' - Jesus son of God. do you follow now?

buddha is the name of a prophet who BUDDHISTS have taken as their God. Infact it is quite ironic that you mention buddha. if any christian wants to know how Muslims feel about about christians ascribing divinity to jesus, they need only to look at the false divinity of Buddha by his followers. absurd isnt it.

Did the historical Buddha teach the same kind of thing as Muhammad?
 
as far aas i know, he taught the same thing as all the prophets 'There is only ONE God'.

but as we can see today the same thing has happened with the followers of buddha and jesus, they have elevated the messenger to the status of 'God'
