I don't know how any of you feel about praying for animals, some do and some don't, but either way I would appreciate someone praying for my dog and me. I have had Cara since I was 14. I'm 26 now and she is 12, so we sort of grew up together and she has been my best friend since the day we met. We have a really strong bond, I know how to read her body language and she all but speaks. She knows how to read me also, and we have a silent communication that works flawlessley. When I got married she moved with me, and when I went through my divorce she was such a source of encouragement just by her happy presence, and she and I lived together alone for 2 years. The thing is, she has had health problems for some time. She is consumed with itching to the point that she makes herself bleed from biting and scratching. I have been taking her to the vet for this condition for about 6 years now and every year it has gotten worse. They have done tests on her, but nothing conclusive, and the meanwhile she is suffering. Cara has been wearing a 'lampshade' collar for 2 whole years now because she will chew her legs from itching, and then they get infected. We are at a loss, the vets cannot help her and she is suffering. It has changed her personality, she doesn't want to do anything but scratch and sleep. I am to the point that I would rather have her put down than let her suffer any more, because it really is pitiful. My heart almost breaks thinking it, but I don't know what else I can do for her.

I've heard good things about Dinovite for this problem. I've never had to use it for any of our dogs, but perhaps you could check into it. It's heartbreaking to see such a good friend suffer in this way. I'll certainly pray that you can find out what is wrong and be able to allieveate Cara's suffering.

I had a dog at one time who did the same thing and I spoke with a local vet in my area and she said that they need more protein in their diets and to mix rice in with their dof food.I would also check into finding a good gentle shampoo for dogs that will help moisturize her skin and that may help with itching to. Good luck & God bless you.

This is the Day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice & be glad in it

Thank you all for your concearn.

To give an update, my mother took Cara to the vet yesterday evening and it is not good. Her kidneys are shutting down and there is nothing more we can do. We had changed her dog food a few months ago, my mother was cooking rice and turkey with a small amount of carrot, and we gave her some plain yogurt to help with the yeast. I have been using a medicated shampoo recommended by our vet for two years that helps temorarily. It seemed as though her coat was getting a bit better, but the itching still continues. On Saturday, my parents had come home to find she had had an accident on the floor and there was blood in it. Also, she had chewed two holes in her hind legs even with the collar on. We have decided, and the vet agrees, that it is best for her to put her down. Thursday after my last class I am going home to take her to the vet and be with her. Please pray for me as this is so hard.

Oh, Caro, I'm so sorry. I know how hard this is to do. I will certainly be praying for you and for Cara. :(

Oh my heart goes out to you, I will be praying Caro for you, I'm so sorry we just went through it too with our 16 year chihuahua Lil' Bear. We got pictures around the house of him. God has blest us with at least those years of happiness Caro, and I'm for one that believes our animals go to heaven with God. I will pray for you and Cara. May our Lord lend you HIS strength, peace upon your mind, and put a calm upon your spirit, and joy in your heart for all the good times to help pull you through this hard situation. She will always be with you carrying her love for you in your heart Caro. My heart is so heavy for you honey. GBU

My thoughts and prayers are with you today, Caroline.

Caroline, my heart is so heavy for you today, know my prayers are with you honey. Just know we all have you surrounded in Christ love and strength in the name of Jesus.

Hear our prayer precious Lord as we lift our sister in Christ Lord into your loving arms for comfort and peace. Lord let your strength flow from the throne upon Caroline head to the bottom of her feet....saturate her Lord in your strength. Calm her heart Lord, mend the heart ache and bring peace upon it. Let her rest in your loving embrace, and remove troubling thoughts, and wipe her tears Lord and bring her an embrace of joy, and assurance you're in control, and that cara has a good home with you Lord, playing ball with you Lord and the children by the River of Life in Paradise.....Amen

Thank you so much for your prayers Handy and Carol. It means alot to me.

I just want to say that the Lord is gracious!

Yesterday was the first day in a long time that Cara was able to play with me and love on me without being consumed with chewing herself. I think that the Lord must have given her a little reprieve for my sake so that we could enjoy our last hours together,.... and it was sweet...

Thank you all for caring. My heart is truly broken, but I have done hard things before and I know that it will get better, especially with your prayers.

God bless you,

~Caroline~
