My child possessed?

Will God allow for a child to be possessed? The reason why I'm asking is that a very prominent lady in a neighboring church (different denomination) told me that the Holy Ghost told her that my daughter is possessed by a 'deaf and dumb' spirit (pardon the direct translation) and that's why she's battling with language. Many specialists have confirmed that she is of above average intelligence and yet she can't seem to construct a normal sentence. Initially I shunned the idea, but is there a possibility that it could be true?
She is a particularly well behaved child and a heart the size of the ocean. This is not typical of a possessed child, is it?

I think it's possible, but it isn't the first thing I'd suspect. Have you had her hearing checked? My cousin (now in his 40's) started talking rather late as a baby. His parents asked a doctor to check it out. Turned out that he had hearing problems. Once that was fixed he started talking.

I do not think that possession is just that simply. There would be something more to it, you know? Is she receptive to the Word? That's the key; demons cannot stand the Truth.

Hearing could be the issue. I had lots of hearing issues, well I still am hard of hearing. Never really effected my speech, but I know others who had speech impediments because of hearing issues.

Besides, some people are just wired differently. My cousin is pretty aware and smart but you cannot hold a conversation with him and he gets tripped up on a word and will stutter on it for minutes.

Her hearing was one of the first things that was tested, and besides, she can her an ice-cream van in a neighboring country.

Her sentences mainly consist of key words rather than constructing full sentences. And even stranger - her English is far better than her Afrikaans. She attends an English school but it is only from 08:00 - 13H00. The rest of the time she is surrounded by people who speak her mother tongue.
As far as the Word is concerned - we pray and talk about Jesus all the time and when I pray over her at night, she is just a peaceful little sleeping angle.

I don't think she is possessed. Some Christians label everything as being a "spirit". I suspect that lady is one of those.

Your daughter sounds like she has some sort of expressive language disorder. Do they know if it is developmental or due to brain damage? Have they looked at potential damage in one of the language areas of the brain, such as Broca's area?

Again; please pardon the direct translation. She was diagnosed with 'Language development disorder' and a dash of Asperger syndrome. Not a very severe degree on the syndrome though.

If she prays with you and talks about Jesus and reads the Word then she isn't possessed.

Maybe she prefers English because it is such a great language... :thumbsup

It doesn't sound like a demon. Especially if she isn't freaking out over the Word of God or anything. If she prays to Jesus, I'd definitely say it's a big "no." I think the woman you were talking to may have been a little confused.

Firstly, I agree with the others here, your little angel is not possessed. She has some kind of issue, to be sure, but it's a physical one, not a spiritual one. My daughter had many of the same problems and has been diagnosed with having auditory processing issues. She too is of above intelligence, but often expresses herself, both verbally and in writing in a very slurred and jumbled manner. The information goes in, and her comprehension is very high, she is a very discerning young lady, but when she tries to get things "out", it sometimes sounds backwards. Your little one is still young, but she might struggle academically as well, for our written expression is often tied to our verbal expression. Just give her lots of love and encouragement, and especially stress to her that this doesn't make her dumb or stupid.

The idea that every physical ailment or even character failure is a "demon" isn't Biblical. I do know that there are some who believe that alcoholism is an actual demon, that "deaf and dumb" is an actual demon. But, there is just no Biblical support for that. Demons are angels, fallen ones to be sure, but nonetheless of the same nature and with the same abilities as the ones on God's side.

Secondly, why would the Holy Spirit talk to this woman about your daughter? You are a Christian, you have the Spirit. Why the run-around? God placed you as your daughter's mother, care-giver and guardian. Why would He go to others about something as important as this? It doesn't make sense that He would tell someone else instead of you, the person whom He put in charge of her.

Usually, if something doesn't make any sense, it's because it isn't true.

Now, I do believe that children, once having lost innocence, (who knows when that is, it's a very individual thing) can be possessed, or at least demonically oppressed. But, not Christian children, and especially not children who take joy in Christ (even if He's a bad cook!) ;)

In a word, yes.

PS. But it's not anything to get overly stressed about. Just bring it to God and ask him what he wants you to do in the situation and follow his leading.

An unclean spirit in a christian (or person) is not the end of the world. In fact it's actually pretty *normal. Read how common it was during Jesus's time. (these people wern't idol worshipers.)

*normal of course not meaning acceptable, but just the reality of living in satans world so to speak, or a world full of sin and its consequences.

You're daughter is not possessed. Don't forget God's promise:

Exodus 20:6
" but showing love to a thousand {generations} of those who love me and keep my commandments."

Your daughter is gleaming blessings off of her righteous mother, until she is able to one day pick up the mantle.

I think that lady is a little confused. Yes, the word tells us that there is a "deaf and dumb" demon/spirit but we have to use discernment and seek God for an answer in the matter.

Is your little one possessed. N-0. God is allowing this for a reason in your lives. One with a holy purpose to bless you both.

Don't forget this miracle:

John 9

Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind

1As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
3"Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life. 4As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. 5While I am in the world, I am the light of the world."

6Having said this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man's eyes. 7"Go," he told him, "wash in the Pool of Siloam" (this word means Sent). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.

8His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging asked, "Isn't this the same man who used to sit and beg?" 9Some claimed that he was.
Others said, "No, he only looks like him."
But he himself insisted, "I am the man."

10"How then were your eyes opened?" they demanded.

11He replied, "The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see."

12"Where is this man?" they asked him.
"I don't know," he said.

Lord, I pray for l'Chante's daughter, you know her by name, but most importantly you know her heart. You know what makes her smile and what makes her laugh. You know that right now she is struggling with her speech. Please loose her tongue to be able to speak the words on her heart and on her mind. Please let your peace that surpasses all understanding rest on her shoulders. Please heal her and give her a testimony in which to glorify you. Thank you Lord. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

l'Chante- have you ever talked to her about asking the Holy Spirit to fill her by coming into her heart? If it's something she is willing to do, tell her to say the simple words of "Holy Spirit please come into my heart and fill me up." No Holy Spirit filled [persons] Christians can ever be possessed. If possible this can be a source of comfort to block those kinds of thoughts/worries.

.

L'Chante, no one except the Holy Spirit can confirm whether your child is possessed or not. When a very prominent Christian lady tells you something like that, you should take heed and pray and ask God to confirm if the message is really from Him and to expose the spiritual root cause behind this. As we do not know your family and ancetral background, we cannot say for sure if there's a curse passed down the lines. But if your ancestors had dabbled in the occult, it is possible that some evil forces are still at work. Again, this can only be revealed and confirmed by the Holy Spirit through prayers.

I will be praying for you and your daughter regarding this situation and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth and heal and deliver your daughter.

:pray :pray :pray

My cousin's child had the same problem as you are describing. He has a mild form of Autism Spectrum Disorder. He now communicates better. He too is very intelligent, but he didn't communicated until he was older.
