For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. (Romans 1:16 KJV)
To go forward from here, let’s go back a bit. Leviticus 23:9-14 explains the first fruits offering, it was to be a wave offering before the Lord, and it was to be offered with a “he lamb without blemishâ€Â. Sacrifices had to spotless, without blemish, not just this sacrifice. Now fast forward to Luke:
And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. (Luke 16:31 KJV)
I know these two verses don’t seem to go together, but follow along. Miracles do not help the sinner to “see†Christ, nor does it help them to believe. If you remember, even Jesus was accused of working miracles through the power of demons.
The death and resurrection of Christ is a stumbling block to the Jews. Much like the rich man begging for Lazarus to be sent to his family, the Jews have been awaiting the Messiah. They missed Him some 2000 years ago. They could not see for looking, because they could not understand the word of the Old Testament prophets. The miracles that Christ and his disciples performed did not persuade them that Jesus was in fact the Christ. Much the same as Paul, they had, and still have, scales over their eyes (see Acts 9:18). They are blinded to the truth, yet despite this, they are still the chosen people of God. This blindness of the Jews is pre-determined, and only for a set amount of time.
For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. (Romans 11:25 KJV)
The first fruit offering, Christ, is already in Heaven. The harvest of the field is now taking place among the Gentiles, and the gleaning of the field is about to happen. (See Deuteronomy 24:19-21 for explanation on gleaning). There is a remnant left of Israel for God’s glory in the tribulation.
How can anyone say for certain the end times are near? Consider the following scriptures:
For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. (Matthew 24:5 KJV)
And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. (Matthew 24:6 KJV)
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. (Matthew 24:7 KJV)
And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. (Matthew 24:11 KJV)
And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. (Matthew 24:14 KJV)
So what happens once the fullness of the Gentiles is reached & the field is harvested? The short answer is the second coming of Christ, but there is some scripture that points to specific things.
First, look at Daniel chapter 9. The word translated as weeks refers to a period of seven years. Verse 25 tells us from the order to rebuild the city of Jerusalem to the Messiah is “seven weeks and threescore and two weeks†or 69 weeks or 483 years. This would put the end of the period at 27 A.D.; about the time Jesus started His ministry. Verse 26 tells the Messiah would be “cut off, but not for Himselfâ€Â. He was cut off as that spotless first fruit sacrifice, the he lamb, for you and me. Now skip back to verse 24, it says 70 weeks, not 69, right? The 70 weeks is to Jews and Jerusalem. After the death of the Jesus, the harvest is the fullness of the Gentiles, not the Jews. The 70th week is about to start. Look to verse 27:
And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. (Daniel 9:27 KJV)
Why would there be a covenant with a country that does not exist? No doubt this was and is a major stumbling block to many Jews. Their city, Jerusalem, was destroyed in 70 A.D. (fulfilling a prophesy of Christ) and existed no more until May 15, 1948, when Israel was formed for a 3rd time as a nation. Since this time land has been disputed and Jerusalem has been split between the Christians, Jews and Muslims. A man, the antichrist, will come forth and deliver a covenant guaranteeing peace and land. This same man, I believe, that offers the covenant is the “son of perdition, the man of sin†in 1 Thessalonians 2:3-4. This same passage also talks of a “falling awayâ€Â. Today we have a falling away that is immeasurable. While more and more people confess Christianity, they know not what they are confessing. They are confessing to a priest and praying to Mary. They are deceived by the false prophets of Mormonism. They are grabbing a hold of the love of money (the root of all evil and the modern day prosperity preaching). And above all, they are not preached the cross and Christ crucified. So what exactly are they confessing? One day soon they will see “lightning cometh out of the east; and shineth even unto the west†(Matthew 24:27 KJV). At that very moment, the harvest of the Gentile field is complete. Now all that remains is the field to be gleaned. The remnant of Jews must still come to know Jesus.
From this point forward is where a lot of divisiveness can come, and that is not my intent. This is simply my understanding based on my prayer and reading and studies. We will all, as Christians, one day have a full and complete understanding of these things. Even the book of Revelation speaks of things sealed up, not written of, but one day, we will know.
Immediately after the rapture, I think two very important things will occur. One will be the two witnesses spoken of in Revelation 11. I believe these to be Enoch and Elijah. These are the only two men to never taste physical death. Even Christ suffered a physical death. These two witnesses will preach for the first 3 ½ years of the tribulation. This will possibly be at what is currently known as the Temple Mount (my opinion). At this point, they too will come to know physical death (see Revelation 11:7) and be called to Heaven after 3 ½ days (Revelation 11:11-12). The gospel will still be preached after this point by angels. This is in Revelation 14:6. The gospel will be preached to the entire world, every nation, kindred and tongue. The other thing I believe will occur at the very start of the tribulation is the war mentioned in Ezekiel 39. Despite the covenant, Israel will come under attack.
At the 3-½ year mark, after the witnesses are killed and called home, there will be war on earth and also in Heaven. Currently, and from the beginning, satan has had access to Heaven (see Revelation 12:7-10 and Job 1:6). This will begin the “Great†tribulation, or the last 3 ½ years of the 7-year tribulation. The war in Heaven will be the casting out of satan and his demons. They will no longer have access to anything but Earth and hell. This period will bring forth the final of the seven trumpets, the messages of the angels, the seven plagues and the vials of God’s wrath. For the end of the tribulation, satan is finally bound and cast into the bottomless pit, sealed, and allowed no access to anything for 1000 years (Revelation 20:2-3). During the 1000-year reign of Christ on Earth, I have to imagine it will be very similar to both our current Earth, and the one of the Garden of Eden. The perfect nature God first implemented on Earth will be restored, and God will be the center. But the New Jerusalem is not descended yet, so Earth, I think, will remain much as we know it today, but we will be spiritual beings, in our new bodies. It is at the end of this 1000-year reign on Earth that satan will once again be loosed, and the final rebellion against God will occur. The devil will again roam the face of the earth, seeking whom he may devour, gathering one that wish to rebel against God as ruler and will come against God with his followers one last time and face final judgment (Revelation 20:7-10). At this time there will descend the New Jerusalem, with streets of gold and gates of pearl. But as beautiful as this sounds, our focus will not be on this at all. We will realize the very thing we strive for, the very thing we seek, the very face of God.
And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads. (Revelation 22:4 KJV)
The end is coming soon, we do not know the time or day, but we should be ready at all times to be forever more with our Lord and Savior.
He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. (Revelation 22:20 KJV)
