Mysteries of DEATH, Unraveled.

Dearest Friends,

Death is really not what we've grown up to believe, some of us, even those who have grown up in good Christians homes have misunderstood it's truths, many have probably never realized how clear the concept of death is from a biblical perspective...

Ppl see this short video on the explanation of death supported by the Bible:

Let me know what you guys think!

Yes, I agree. But I want to mention one thing. When we die, we go from time to eternity. Even if we soul sleep until the resurrection (ie, ceases to exist or whatever), our next conscious moment will be in the future with the Lord. So from our vantage point, there is no gap, and in a sense those who passed on before us are indeed "with the Lord' and the resurrection is occurred already. But in fact, it has not yet occurred. This is what I jokingly refer to as Einsteinian theology when we mess with time.

I never made this point a major doctrinal thing, but I will admit a soul living without a body until resurrected does have a tone of discontinuity. We are all or nothing and cannot be separated any more than Father, Son, Holy Spirit can be separated.

Good video. I agree with the spirit = breath point exactly and what life an death are. Infact I've so trained myself in the meaning of "spirit" in the Hebrew and Greek that when I read it or hear it my brain automatically translates its meaning into "breath", as one's "vital essence".

However I must council caution about the whole "sleep" thing as it is not so clean cut. I agree with the apprehension of a user who commented on the video (on YouTube) on the first page:

"Video is good I always loved the Scriptural references, but I have one problem about the video. I was hoping that they were going to mention about 1st Samuel 28:12-14 concerning Samuel reappearing after his death. Also about the Transfiguration when Moses and Elijah came to Jesus and spoke to him Mark 9:2-4. My last Scripture I wish they would have commented on is Revelation 6:9-11. Is it their soul or spirit that is aware while their body is in the grave? "

He's right about those being occurances of saints appearing aware and interactive after physical death. Also the point of David being "dead" must be understood in context (as must all Scripture) as as otherwise this would contradict Jesus' point to the Pharisees that God is not the God of the dead but of the living (refering to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob - who were physically dead). In addition we have the story (Jesus never calls it a parable) of Lazarus in Abraham's Bosom of interaction after death, not to mention Peter's reference to Jesus "proclaiming the word to the spirits in prison" who were disobedient before the flood (presumably either to people in hell who perished in the flood or perhaps proclaiming His victory over evil "spirits" - it's a little vague). Also in the OT in Isaiah 14 there is an image of the dead speaking and taunting to the 'morning star' as a new-comer in Sheol saying, "have you become weak as us?" showing awareness but some form of weakness in their "bodies".

I say all this to show that the issue can lay both ways and its by no means clear cut. There are ambiguities in both directions.
