Myths of the Middle East
© 2000 WorldNetDaily.com
by Joseph Farah

(Joseph Farah, an Arab-American journalist, is the editor and chief
executive officer of WorldNetDaily.com, a leading independent news site.)

I've been quiet since Israel erupted in fighting spurred by disputes over
the Temple Mount. Until now, I haven't even bothered to say, "See, I told
you so." But I can't resist any longer. I feel compelled to remind you of
the column I wrote just a couple weeks before the latest uprising. Yeah,
folks, I predicted it. That's OK. Hold your applause.

After all, I wish I had been wrong. More than 80 people have been killed
since the current fighting in and around Jerusalem began. And for what? If
you believe what you read in most news sources, Palestinians want a homeland
and Muslims want control over sites they consider holy. Simple, right?

Well, as an Arab-American journalist who has spent some time in the Middle
East dodging more than my share of rocks and mortar shells,
I've got to tell you that these are just phony excuses for the rioting, trouble-making and land-grabbing.

Isn't it interesting that prior to the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, there was no serious movement for a Palestinian homeland?

"Well, Farah," you might say, "that was before the Israelis seized the West Bank and Old Jerusalem."

That's true. In the Six-Day War, Israel captured Judea, Samaria and East
Jerusalem. But they didn't capture these territories from Yasser Arafat.
They captured them from Jordan's King Hussein. I can't help but wonder
why all these Palestinians suddenly discovered their national identity after
Israel won the war.

The truth is that Palestine is no more real than Never-Never Land.
The first time the name was used was in 70 A.D. when the Romans committed genocide
against the Jews, smashed the Temple and declared the land of Israel would
be no more. From then on, the Romans promised, it would be known as
Palestine. The name was derived from the Philistines, a Goliathian people
conquered by the Jews centuries earlier. It was a way for the Romans to add
insult to injury. They also tried to change the name of Jerusalem to Aelia
Capitolina, but that had even less staying power.

Palestine has never existed -- before or since -- as an autonomous entity.
It was ruled alternately by Rome, by Islamic and Christian crusaders, by the
Ottoman Empire and, briefly, by the British after World War I. The British
agreed to restore at least part of the land to the Jewish people as their
homeland.

There is no language known as Palestinian. There is no distinct Palestinian
culture. There has never been a land known as Palestine governed by
Palestinians.
Palestinians are Arabs, indistinguishable from Jordanians
(another recent invention), Syrians, Lebanese, Iraqis, etc.
Keep in mind that the Arabs control 99.9 percent of the Middle East lands.
Israel represents one-tenth of 1 percent of the landmass.

But that's too much for the Arabs. They want it all. And that is ultimately
what the fighting in Israel is about today. Greed. Pride. Envy.
Covetousness. No matter how many land concessions the Israelis make, it will
never be enough.

What about Islam's holy sites? There are none in Jerusalem. Shocked? You
should be. I don't expect you will ever hear this brutal truth from anyone
else in the international media. It's just not politically correct. I know
what you're going to say: "Farah, the Al Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the
Rock in Jerusalem represent Islam's third most holy sites."

Not true. In fact, the Koran says nothing about Jerusalem. It mentions Mecca
hundreds of times. It mentions Medina countless times. It never mentions
Jerusalem. With good reason. There is no historical evidence to suggest
Mohammed ever visited Jerusalem.

So how did Jerusalem become the third holiest site of Islam? Muslims today
cite a vague passage in the Koran, the seventeenth Sura, entitled "The Night
Journey." It relates that in a dream or a vision Mohammed was carried by
night "from the sacred temple to the temple that is most remote, whose
precinct we have blessed, that we might show him our signs. ..." In the
seventh century, some Muslims identified the two temples mentioned in this
verse as being in Mecca and Jerusalem. And that's as close as Islam's
connection with Jerusalem gets -- myth, fantasy, wishful thinking.
And since the Temple was destroyed about 500 years before Muhammad
came into existents how then could he had gone on a night journey to the Temple in Jerusalem?

Meanwhile, Jews can trace their roots in Jerusalem back to the days of
Abraham.

The latest round of violence in Israel erupted when Likud Party leader Ariel
Sharon tried to visit the Temple Mount, the foundation of the Temple built
by Solomon. It is the holiest site for Jews. Sharon and his entourage were
met with stones and threats. I know what it's like. I've been there. Can you
imagine what it is like for Jews to be threatened, stoned and physically
kept out of the holiest site in Judaism?

So what's the solution to the Middle East mayhem? Well, frankly, I don't
think there is a man-made solution to the violence. But, if there is one, it
needs to begin with truth. Pretending will only lead to more chaos. Treating
a 5,000-year-old birthright backed by overwhelming historical and
archaeological evidence equally with illegitimate claims, wishes and wants
gives diplomacy and peacekeeping a bad name.

A Reversal of History in the Promised Land

By Yusuf Agha

“Pigs are horses. Girls are boys. War is Peace.†- Arundhati Roy

The twenty-first century raises its curtain on Palestine in a tortured, twisted light. Events in the land sacred to the three Abrahamic faiths belie history like a carnival of warped mirrors. People, roles, and events from days of yore are reflected with blinding flashes of irony in our times.

Welcome to Palestine - the Promised Land, which has become a veritable Hell on Earth.

The Old Testament recounts the victory of David over the giant Goliath - his weapon a stone. Today, it is the youth of Palestine that hurl stones at Israel’s gigantic fire breathing military arsenal.

There is even an exodus - not of Moses leading his people into Israel, but of 3.1 million Palestinians dispossessed of their land and liberties by the relentlessly oppressive armies and settlers of Israel.

But it is not Moses who demands of the pharaoh: “Let my people go.†It is the world clamoring to deplore the restrictions imposed on Yasser Arafat, confined to his battered headquarters in Ramallah by tanks, soldiers and barbed wire since early December.

The tanks and armored cars rumble into Bethlehem on the very path Christ tread, wreaking havoc on the holy city. As they besiege the Church of Nativity, the 300,000 strong Christian community in the city does not place palm leaves under the trampling boots of the Israeli infantry.

The Israeli Defense Force besieges the holiest church in Christendom, where over 200 Palestinian men, women and children have fled for cover for fear of their lives. In a Jewish celebration of Passover, this scene from the Bible is re-enacted in real life: “…the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews (John 20:19).â€Â

The Bible teaches us that Jesus died on the cross for the sins of humanity. For whose sins did the mentally impaired Christian bell ringer of Christ’s church die? Samir Salman was shot crossing Manger Square to the besieged church to perform a task he has done for countless years. “Apparently he did not understand the Israeli soldiers’ orders to halt, a priest inside recounted, so they shot him dead,†reports the Washington Post.

No bells toll for Samir the bell-ringer. Or for the two hundred Palestinians killed in the first week of the Israeli assault - fifty unarmed civilians alone in a single day in a refugee camp on the West Bank.

In a land where once the Pharaoh - then Arab steed and warrior - rode to victory in Middle Eastern land, the present rulers of Egypt and Jordan tremble and bury their heads in the desert sand. Their police attack and arrest their own people as the multitudes protest the Israeli massacre.

In scenes reminiscent of the Nazi attack on Jewish neighborhoods in Poland during the Second World War, Israeli flame throwing tanks and “ack ack†guns breathe fire on houses of unarmed civilians, crushing cars, killing pregnant mothers and their unborn children.

The Nobel Laureate Jose Saramaho visited Ramallah and compared the Israeli occupation to Auschwitz Nazi concentration camps. “We have to ring the alarm bell everywhere in the world to say that what is happening today is a crime that we can end,†said Saramago, criticizing the extension of Jewish settlements and deploring checkpoints and restrictions placed on the movement of Palestinians.

In World War II, the Nazis arrested Jews and interned them in dreaded concentration camps. In Intifida II, Israel has internment camps of its own in the southern Negev desert where over 1000 arrested Palestinians are detained.

The Holocaust revisited - a Palestinian holocaust with an Israeli flavor.

When the world faced the onslaught of the Nazis, the American statesman-President Franklin Roosevelt enunciated his doctrine of “a world founded upon four essential human freedoms,†and wrenched his country out of its isolationism to battle on the side of the free world. Today, as those human freedoms are blatantly violated in Palestine, his successor retreats to his ranch, to emerge only when the European Union threatens to wrest the peace initiative from American hands. A week into the war, George Bush delivers what Robert Fisk describes in Britain’s The Independent as “a speech laced with obsessions and little else†- promising too little, too late.

The Israeli army wreaks havoc into the Palestinian Authority, arresting, disarming and maiming its police force. Yet, despite the innumerable images of Israeli tanks and guns that flash across television screens, Bush chastises the beleaguered Arafat for not “doing Enough†to bring about peace in the occupied land. The mugger, writes Fisk, becomes the victim. Are there no television sets in Crawford, Texas?

Arafat is not the only hostage of Israel. The American negotiator

Palestinians expelled from their homes (1948)

General Zinni has attempted to visit Arafat, but is prevented by Prime Minister Sharon. The Marine General, twice AWOL from the land in which he is supposed to negotiate peace, obliges like an obedient schoolboy. A European Union team too is turned away by Israeli forces.

Journalists are forcibly removed from the war zone and attacked with stun grenades. Gobbels would tell you that a war on civilians makes for bad publicity. Prime Minister Sharon learns his lessons from history well.

The inventors of terrorism in the Middle East take the moral high ground. Israel would have you believe that the suicide bombing by an 18-year-old girl is a greater crime than the bombings of the King David Hotel, where Israeli terrorists killed and maimed British women and children little over half a century ago.

Sharon, the butcher of Sabra and Shatila, lectures the world about Palestinian terror. He regrets not having murdered Arafat earlier when he had the chance. Netanyahu, his hopeful successor, re-emerges from what CNN reported as “criminal corruption charges… in a bribery and theft investigation†to take to the air in favor of the Israeli onslaught. In a land that once produced biblical prophets, the lot of the people of Israel is to be led by murderers and thieves. But they are both “honorable†men.

And Shimon Perez makes three. Following the historic Oslo accord, the Nobel committee awarded both Arafat and Perez the Nobel peace prize. The BBC reports that “committee members said they egretted that Mr. Peres’ prize could not be recalled.â€Â

History reverses itself in the Promised Land. This time around, Arafat is David. Sharon is Hitler. And George Bush is no FDR.

Palestine: Its Significance for Muslims

Palestine is part and parcel of the Muslims’ identity. Each Muslim has a big role to play regarding Palestine and its people. Each should support the Palestinian cause according to his means. Those who are well-off should give charity, and those who pay the Zakah aught to allocate part of it to help their oppressed Muslim brothers and sisters in Palestine as well as in the whole world. Every Muslim can champion the cause of his Ummah from the place where he lives.

In order to shed some light on the significance of Palestine in Islam, we’d cite the following:

Palestine in Islamic Faith:

The significance of Palestine in the Islamic faith is evident by the frequent references to it in both the Qur'an and the hadiths (traditions) of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The greatest significance of Palestine for the Muslims is that it contains Baitul-Maqdis (the noble sanctuary), the holiest place in Islam outside of the Hijaz. Both Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa and the Dome of the Rock are built in the area of the Baitul-Maqdis.

Baitul-Maqdis in Palestine was the center of Isra’ and Mi`raj of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). In the Qur'an Allah says: (Glory be to the One who took his servant on a journey by night from Al-Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah to Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa whose precincts We have blessed...) (Al-Isra' 17: 1)

Baitul-Maqdis in Palestine was the second Mosque established on earth after Al-Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah. In the Hadith, Abu Dharr said: "Once I asked Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) what was the first mosque established on the earth; he said “Al- Masjid Al-Haram.†Then I asked him: then, which mosque? He replied: “Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa.†I then asked him what was the time period between the establishment of the two mosques; and he said: “forty years." (Reported by Al-Bukhari)

Baitul-Maqdis in Palestine was the first Qibla (direction in which Muslims face when praying). The Muslims faced towards Baitul-Maqdis when praying during the entire Makkah period of Prophet Muhammad's (peace and blessings be upon him) life and for the first 16 months of the Madinian period, after which Allah ordered the Qibla to be changed towards the Ka`ba in Makkah.

Prayers in Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa are equivalent to 500 times the Prayers in any other mosque except for Al-Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah and Al-Masjid An-Nabawi (the Mosque of the Prophet) in Madinah. In the Hadith Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Prayers in Al-Masjid Al-Haram are equivalent to 100,000 Prayers, and Prayers in my Masjid (in Madinah) are equivalent to 1000 Prayers, and Prayers in Baitul-Maqdis are equivalent to 500 Prayers." (Reported by at-Tabarani)

In addition there are several verses in the Holy Qur'an and several hadiths of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that describe both the significance of Baitul-Maqdis in Islam and the fact that Allah has blessed the land around it. The various Qur'anic revelations and Prophetic statements concerning the blessed land of Palestine endeared the land to the Companions (Sahabah) of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to such an extent that when `Umar ibn Al-Khattab entered the region for the first time he announced that all the lands of Palestine would be part of the Islamic Waqf (endowment) for the Muslim generations to come. After studying the various Qur’anic revelations, Prophetic traditions and practices of the Companions to the Prophet, no rational mind could deny that Palestine as a blessed and holy land is of extreme importance and significance to every believer in Islam.

Palestine in Islamic History:

The history of Palestine represents the history of Islam from the first Prophet of Islam, Adam (peace and blessings be upon him), to the last Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Palestine is the land of Prophets who were sent with the message of Islam and hence should not be ruled by anyone other than those who uphold the message of Islam by implementing its laws and regulations.

Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa was the second mosque established on earth forty years after the establishment of Al-Masjid Al-Haram.

It is a holy site where many of the Prophets were born or died, including Prophets Ibrahim, Lut, Dawud, Sulayman, Musa and `Isa. While Dawud and Sulayman were able to create Islamic states in Palestine based on divinely ordained laws, according to both the Bible and the Qur'an, their descendants strayed from the path, transgressed against the laws revealed by Allah and thus brought upon themselves Allah's punishment which included banishment from the holy land.

Baitul-Maqdis was the site of Isra' and Mi'raj of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) during the Makkan period of his message.

Palestine was brought under Muslim control at the time of `Umar ibn al-Khattab, the second caliph of Muslims. Palestine was then made part of the Islamic state being ruled by Islamic law. The new laws were welcomed not only by the Muslims but also by the Jews and Christians of Palestine who had formerly been living under the tyrannical Byzantine yoke. The Byzantines were persecuting the Christians of the area because the Palestinian Christians belonged to a different Christian sect. The Muslims, however, guaranteed all Christians freedom of religion regardless of their sect.

In 1099 A.C. Palestine was invaded by the European Crusaders and subsequently occupied for nearly a century. During the occupation massacres and great injustices were committed against the Muslim, Jewish and native Christian residents of the area. The only law applied in the holy land blessed by Allah was the law of force and persecution.

In 1187 A.C. Palestine was liberated by the Muslims under the leadership of Salah Ad-Din Al-Ayyubi (Saladin) who brought back Islamic law to the area.

In 1917 the British government issued the Balfour Declaration which declared Palestine to be a homeland for Jews. At the time Jews made up approximately 8% of the population of Palestine and owned approximately 2.5% of the land.

In 1918 the British and their Arab nationalist allies defeated the Ottomans. The British dismembered the Ottoman Empire and occupied Palestine. The British immediately began a campaign of immigrating European Jews to Palestine.

In 1948 the Jews claimed the establishment of a state for themselves over the land of Palestine and called it Israel. Hundreds of thousands of Muslims were forced out of Palestine under the military pressure of Jewish terrorist groups such as the Irgun, Levi, and Haganot which were financed and armed by the British army.

In 1967 Israel attacked Egypt, Jordan and Syria and occupied more land including, for the first time, Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa. Since that time Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa has been the target of several attempts by the Jews to destroy or burn it, including several attempts to bring about its collapse through underground excavations. The Jews know that Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa is symbolic of the Islamic nature of the land and want to remove any trace of Islamic civilization from Palestine.

Based on Palestine's Islamic history and significance in the Islamic faith, and after the failure of all non-Islamic methods to free Palestine from Zionist occupation, the Islamic solution is re-emerging as a powerful and popular means to liberate the occupied lands. Islam is a religion of peace secured by divine justice. Only Islam offers respect to all divinely revealed religions as it is the only religion which recognizes all the Prophets from Adam to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). It is the only religion which recognizes and believes that all the Prophets brought the same essential message and thus all people deserve the freedom to worship as they please without persecution or harassment. For this reason, it has historically proven itself to be the only tolerant religion with regard to the peace and sanctity of the Holy Land. Only Islam can bring back peace to the Holy Land and security for the unrestricted and unharassed worship of Allah, the All-Mighty, by all who believe in Him whether Muslim, Christian, or Jew.

Israeli tortures to Palestinian Civilians:

The purpose of this article is to expose the uncivilized Jews in Israel who caused so many torture to many unarmed Palestinian civilians. Please be advised that some of these pictures are quite disturbing!

Important Note: Israel still refused to let the "Human Rights" organizations to enter Israel to investigate their barbaraic attacks on Palestinian civilians. The world is still demanding from Israel to let the "Human Rights" organizations enter its lands. Israeli soldiers are known for constantly herrasing and blocking international reporters from video taping the Israeli soldiers' activities against the Palestinian civilians in Israeli lands.

2 Chronicles 6

4 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who hath with his hands fulfilled that which he spake with his mouth to my father David, saying,
5 Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:
6 But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.
7 Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.

2 Chronicles 11

16 And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the LORD God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the LORD God of their fathers.

Isaiah 24

23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.

Isaiah 17

7 At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel

Psalms 147

1 Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.
2 The LORD doth build up Jerusalem: he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel.
3 He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
4 He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.
5 Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.
6 The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.
7 Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God:
19 He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel.
20 He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD

Psalms 122

1 I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.
2 Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem.
3 Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together:
4 Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the LORD.
5 For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David.
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.

They expelled and steal our people and our lands and gather their people instead of them.

That’s why I told YESHUA they would go to their death to be killed and to clean the whole earth from their evils this promise from our God almighty:

17:7 If ye did well, ye did well for yourselves; if ye did evil, (ye did it) against yourselves. So when the second of the warnings came to pass, (We permitted your enemies) to disfigure your faces, and to enter your Temple as they had entered it before, and to visit with destruction all that fell into their power.
