Bible Study Nautical terms in the Bible...

I've been looking lately into various nautical terms in the Bible as applied theologically. The marathon/athelete analogy is replete in Paul's writings but I have also taken interest in the nautical references.

Anchor - Hebrews 6:19
Drift - Hebrews 2:1
Shipwreck - 1 Tim. 1:19
“hidden reefs†(incorrectly translated "spots")- Jude 12
Shrink back (hupostello - used of pulling back a sail) - Hebrews 10:38

Can anyone provide me with any more refernces to nautical terms whatsoever? Some of the terms must be looked at in terms of their litteral Greek meaning (thus not all are obviously nautical on the surface - like hupostello above). Thanks

God Bless,

~Josh

Jonah has quite a bit of seaworthy terms for ya, matey.
Jesus hung out with Peter, James and John quite a bit, so we see them in boats out on the sea a few times.
Paul did much of his journeying aboard ships, and was even shipwrecked. I remember watching a documentary many years ago where they believed that the anchors from that ship had been found.

If you go to an online Bible, you can find a lot of stuff by key wording things like "Ship" and "Sea".

Thanks Gabby, but I was looking more for nautical terms as theologically applied, a.k.a. a metaphorical usage of a nautical term to represent a doctrinal truth.

God Bless,

ah, sorry. I started a thread a few days ago looking for the same thing using fish as a metaphor. Perhaps we could pull a study together out of this?
