need advice/help

I have on site that is bookmarked that I have never had a problem getting on until yesterday afternoon. WHen I would try to get on it I would get the IE error page saying "The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings. " I am using my cabel modem.

I used my son's computer which uses dial up (a different ISP) and I could log on with no problems. I tried again at the same time I was logged on with dial up on my computer and I still could not log in.

I went to the internet tools and checked to see if on my privacy it had somehow got put in the blocked list as well I checked my firewall and nothing came up. This site is not being blocked by me.

Could it be that I am being blocked by this site? (I have NO idea why I would.) What other options do I have?

THanks in advance,

Blessed

try accessing the site through the address bar. If it hook's in, the bookmarks trashed. Delete the old one and rebook it. If it doesn't connect try using "Explorer" not "IE Explorer" and see if it hooks.

If those fail, try and ping the address from a command prompt. If you don't know what that is, tell me and I'll post a screenshot for ya.

Let me know the results of any of the above.

Another thing you might try is allowing pop up's for that site if you have a pop up blocker and the site uses pop ups (like christianforums.net).
The google toolbar and the yahoo toolbar include pop up blockers as well.

More advice needed!! Help!

:fadein:

I too have a problem. When I send from my computor a Bible study with my slide pictures (any pictures) and with my study material attached that I prepare, the picture does not make the trip. Just the study material now goes through?? I say now, because it did work just fine before.

I must have messed up my settings somewhere? Can anyone tell me how to fix this??? And the setting letters for reversa,l or whatever?
Thanks in advance! ---John

Are you talking about Power Point? It sounds like you may be linking your pictures instead of embedding them.

Give me some more info.

Thanks,
Jeff

John here:

OK: I have on my computer slide pictures from my scanner.

Lets say that I send the picture in an email along with Psalms 77:13.
The verse 13 is the only thing that arrives at the address as on now? (it worked in yester/year)

I'll send you a pm with my e-mail.

I want to see if your sending a shortcut or what... I know that some corporations strip pictures, but I'm assuming your at home.

Also, if your using Office 2003 with Outlook, I believe that it strips jpg's and bmp's until you allow it. What e-mail client are you using?

Jeff

John,
Sent you an e-mail and I received your attachment. However, it is possible that you are not able to receive attachments as many other outlook express and outlook clients.

Here is an article that shows you how to enable files to be received in outlook express.

http://www.updatexp.com/blocked-outlook ... ments.html

For example, you may experience any of the following symptoms:

(NB - The following blocked Outlook Express attachment REALLY is a virus and so demonstrates this useful feature!)

1) When you click the paper clip in the Preview pane, the Save Attachments and the file name commands are unavailable (they are pale grey). As in the following screen shot:
tip20-1.gif

2) When you open an e-mail message, the Attach field is missing from the e-mail message, and the following message is displayed in the message alert bar at the top of the e-mail message:

"Outlook Express removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your email: name of file"

The following screen shot shows Outlook Express 6 blocking access to the attachment.

tip20-2.gif

This behaviour occurs if the Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus option is enabled, and the e-mail attachment is determined by Outlook Express to be "unsafe".

By default, the Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus option is enabled in Outlook Express 6 SP1.

When this virus-protection feature is enabled, Outlook Express uses the Internet Explorer unsafe file list and the Confirm open after download setting in Folder Options to determine if a file is safe.

Any e-mail attachment with a file type that is reported as "unsafe" is not downloaded, and access to the attachment is removed.

If you are sure that the attachment is safe to download or open, use the following method:

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps. This info is for Windows XP and Outlook Express 6 SP1

Turn off the Option to Use the Unsafe File List

Start Outlook Express 6.
On the Tools menu, click Options.
Click the Security tab, click to clear the Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus check box under Virus Protection, and then click OK.
The following screen shot shows the Security Tab in Outlook Express 6 SP1:

Now close Outlook Express 6 and the settings will take place once you restart the email program.

-----------

NB- Outlook 2000, XP and 2003 have a 'feature' that blocks attachments based on the file extension too! This is great for blocking viruses, but unfortunately, it also blocks legitimate attachments from coming into your Inbox. Use DetachOL to change which file types are blocked, according to YOUR needs, not those of the Outlook development team!

Thanks for your 'precious' time! I am working on it.

I was born in a little town called Hartford Mi. A couple hundred miles W. of Detroit.

Hey John.
Yeah, we got slammed by IRCbot.kc pretty hard Wednesday. Nastly little worm! It took down a substantial portion of our network.

Let me know if that fix does the trick for you.

I live in Attica, which is by Lapeer. I believe the wife and I stayed in a Bed in Breakfast in Hartford a few years back... I think they used the house in the underground RR. I don't know if you get to Kalamazoo, but they've opened the Air Zoo. It's a bit spendy, but well worth it if you get a chance!
