I am getting ready to start college this September and I am very nervous. This is something that I really want to do but I am afraid that I will just get teased in college like I was in Highschool. I mean I am not that attractice and I am not popular. THere are way too many things that I could be faced with that I just don't know if I am ready to face. I took two years off after highschool and I am excited to get back into school but like I said very nervous. If you have any advice please share.

Are you going to a Private College or Community College? From my experience, college is a lot more laid back and fun than high school. High school revolved so much around cliques and social status and all that. To be honest, the aren't really a lot of people left from high school that I've stayed in contact even though I basically still live in the same town I grew up in. I met a lot a different people in college and made many good friends. The only thing I'll say about college, I think you'll fit in fine but just keep your priorities right. School takes a lot of focus and there are so many distractions these days, don't lose sight of your goals. Don't worry about what people think of you, be who you are.

At the college I attend, I don't see any cruel teasing and picking on. The professors treat everyone like adults and so do the students. By the time people get to college, they should be beyond name-calling and such, and if they aren't, then most likely, they won't have a very long college career. Like Scott said, "don't worry about what people think of you, be who you are."

Besides, you'll be so busy with school work that you probably won't notice if someone is picking on you! Trust me, between the papers, exams, classes, and homework, people's thoughts about how you might look become quite lower on the priority list. In fact, I've seen people come to class in their pajamas and house shoes! There's even one guy who walks around wearing a long, floor-length black cloak. He kinda looks like an evil wizard or something. I've never heard anyone teasing the 'jamie wearers or the cloak fella. That's just the way they are, and people accept it and go on with their lives.

I hope you enjoy your schooling and God bless!

College is a great place to find more people like yourself.

In highschool I got stuck hangign with mainly people older or younge,r because my class mates seemed imature and, well, they were the kids i didn't like..

In college, you get the choice of thousands of diffrent individuals and its pretty cool. We have alot of "fun" teasing and practical jokes that we do, but that is only amongst the closest of friends. People don't actually bully or pick on other people (atleast here)

Possibly you could join a fraternity or sorority (a respectble, community service/education based one) like I have. I met a ton of people through it and get to help my community out alot.

Usually if you live corridor style and leave your door open, you get to meet alot of people.

Good idea. The dorms are a good way to meet people as well.
Most colleges have Christian organizations to join and meet together as well. That is where I met most of my really good friends I have now.

High school is a horrible experience, I didn't get teased, but I just hated being there. I loved the college experience, but hated my first school academically.

From my experience, college has been essentially the same as what everyone else is saying. The atmosphere is laidback and each student is free from judgment, name calling, bullying and the like. College consists more of people who want to be there and who are serious in their purpose of being there. I think that explains the differences. My personal experience, but I'm sure the environment is very similar anywhere.

featherbob has it dead on the nose.

Highschool has everyone. Kids that want to learn, Kids that don't. and the apathetic. College is mainly comprised of thsoe that Do want an education, and that DO want to go somewher ein life. Yes, there are sitll the lazy lethargic few that just flunk out, but the ammount is much smaller.

I noticed that the first semester of the year, tends to have more of those kids, but after they all flunk out, college is alot nicer :)

Highschool just... evil..

College and is completely different from High School. Pretty much, College is kids who want to succeed and don't care about high school drama and usually no care about anyone else but their academics, high school is a social gathering, not really about academics but about popularity. College is a completely different world, don't fret.

yea I agree with the posters, high school wasn't such a fun time for me as well but when I got into college, the whole atmosphere is different. People in college are mature (they have jobs, spend time on their studies, and some even have a kid) unlike in high school where their is alot of immature teens.
