Bible Study new believer Bible Study help!

To cut a rather long story short I have been away from the Lord since I was a child. I have recently come back to him and I want to study my bible but I struggle. I am unsure as to where to start.I have purchased a couple of books
what's so amazing about grace? Phillip Yancey; The Jesus I never knew Phillip Yancey and a few others. But I still seem a little baffled. I have prayed over it but I am struggling to find my way.
I have two young children and I generally read my bible at night and study quite late on so that I have the peace in able to study.

But I am still lost.

Please can someone suggest a few books that are readily available in the UK that will help guide me through my study.

Thank you

Emily

Welcome to CF :wave

I think it's very hard to study the Bible by yourself, especially when you're starting almost from scratch. Find a good group to study with, and you'll find it a lot more satisfyng.

The group that helped me the most was one of about 12 people, meeting two hours a week for 32 weeks. Quite a commitment, but it became so much a part of our lives that we wouldn't miss a session. For that first phase of 32 weeks, we read quickly through almost the entire Bible, without going into depth on any book, but just identifying the major themes. In the next phase of 32 weeks, we went back and did a very thorough study of specific books, including, of course, Romans.

Hi Emily.

Can you get a little more specific to define lost, or struggling for us please?

Is there anything biblicaly specific that your lost, or stuck on? Maybe we can take a subject matter and one step at a time help direct you through it.

I don't know where to start. I have started by just reading the bible a couple of passages at a time. But I am just reading it a if I were reading a novel (I'm not meaning to offend here). I have looked online for bible study tools and it is just giving me a passage a day. Today I have read Gen 1-4 I would like to look more into what each passage means. To be able to make notes etc

I hope I have helped you to help me. But I think it is because I am venturing this alone because I don't go out very often and because I have 2 small children under 4 I have limited time I can use for study.

Three helps are required for quick learning as the verses explain??
Matt. 4:4

[4] But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

(That includes all of the Lords WORD, and that is mindboggeling huh? But wait, there is more understandings!:thumbsup)

2 Tim. 3
[16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

(OK: first we have need of all being Believed! Now 'think' of the following Words! The verse is singling out the Word of [DOCTRINE] & the rest of my hightlited Words. This was your question perhaps? Now notice the last requirement for how 'we' are to get the 'correction' of how to Study!??)

Man says read? (like a book!) Don't run! But that is not how God has Inspired of us to know the above! Isa. 28 tell's us of even these ones. The 'table' is where we are to get fed, the church, right? Notice here in Isa. 28 for how we are to learn True doctrine, + being corrected! and grow & MATURE!!

[7] But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment. (that of false doctrine)

[8] For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean. (what does one read in Rev. 17:1-5 + Jer. 17:5?)

[9] Whom shall [[he teach knowledge?]] and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.

(OK: Here comes your sincere question, answered!)

[10] For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

Think of the Bible as seen in Isa. 8:20 with the 66 books being like court 'testimony' & penned truthfully as the holy spirit had them see the vision. Each would pen the 'sight' in his own words of discribing of them. Now think of just one 'doctrine' (perhaps about where satan came from?) So what we need to do, is to go through the Bible & pick out the verses on just this one subject (we the jury!:chin)
& put them down like the pieces of a puzzel, and when we have them, we can now put the puzzel together & see the Correct picture. And Rev. 12 has several names for satan seen there! And he the serpent was seen there in the Gen. Garden first!

The NIV Study bible has a nice concordance to give further explanation of the use of words and meanings of passages. Might check that out.
