Hey guys I'm super glad to have found this forum!! I have found my faith in God. I am so happy about this since my wife and I are expecting in August. I just want my child to have the same beliefs that I have. I have a bible and would like to start reading it. Any hints on where I should start folks? The beginning? Thanks so much for all your kind words in advance!! Super happy to be here!! God Bless!!

Greetings, MrR ... and welcome to CFnet and I hope you enjoy your time with us!

Great place to start reading the Bible: Genesis. Another place to start: Psalms. Be sure to pray before you begin reading, wherever you begin.

Congratulations on the upcoming little one ... August is a great month for little ones.

"August's child must busy be ... if s/he lives quite happily"

Blessings!

Hello MrRgoyer. It's good to have you on board. A lot of folks say you should start with the gospel of John. I agree that Genesis is a good place to start as well. The only problem with that is that if you just continue after that you might get bogged down around Leviticus and Numbers when it outlines a lot of the law and such, but Genesis and Exodus certainly lay down the very beginnings of our faith. The Psalms are also good as well as the other wisdom books: Proverbs and Ecclesiastes. Romans should also be near the beginning of your reading list. Heh. You really can't go wrong and you'll probably get a lot of other opinions. Just get into the Bible. There's so much good stuff in there, regardless of where you start. :)

Welcome to the forums fellow Canadian!

I think the Psalms are a good place to start as they show the lows and highs, the struggles and the victories of faith, with God always in control. But of course, Genesis or John will do as well.

Welcome to CF.net MrRgoyer and I do hope you find this a place of Christian fellowship, and to encourage your faith as you grow in knowledge of our Lord Jesus. It's good to have you with us in the journey. :wave.

I would start with the Gospels.
As a habit well worth having, spending time reading between one and five psalms a night is also very good.
I and my boys often share turns reading psalms before bedtime.
Perhaps, if you start doing this with your wife -- the child will simply grow into hearing the word of God.
Then you and your wife will also be sharing in receiving that spiritual strength that comes from listening.

Blessings to you.
Your brother in Christ, Jesus, --Andrew.
