Colleges in the U.S. are accredited by non-governmental agencies. Those colleges that deny science have their own accreditation agencies. So the whole idea is unworkable in the U.S. And it works. If you look at a college that teaches "alternative facts" to scientific knowledge, you will know that by the agency that accredited it.

The U.S. Department of Education does not accredit educational institutions and/or programs. However, the Department provides oversight over the postsecondary accreditation system through its review of all federally-recognized accrediting agencies.
