No gas??!!! Milk prices gone up?!

I'm in NC and had to pay $3.00/gallon this morning. It's making me sick. I'm having to drop my morning classes because I also take night classes. I can't afford to drive back and forth college twice a day.

But my sister called this morning freaking out that all the gas stations in her area had no gas! She's in South Carolina. I also know that some gas stations here in NC have "run out" of gas.

My friend in Atlanta has a friend whos dad owns 3 gas stations. He said he was "told" to tell people that he's out of gas. He ended up closing all 3 of his stations and said he will be opening them up tomorrow morning at $3.50/gallon.

Another friend's hubby works for UPS (Atlanta still). His company passed out gas cards because the gas trucks weren't able to come fill the UPS trucks up.

Anyone else seeing stuff like this? We were supposed to go to Atlanta this weekend, but as of now, it looks like our trip is called off. We can't afford it and I don't want to risk getting stranded down there!

The news is making it sound all good that we're tapping into reserves, but don't people realize that we'll have to PAY to make up for tapping into the reserve? Nothing comes free....especially gas.

I noticed that a gallon of milk was 20 cents more than usual today. All this looting that's going on is going to just make prices go up also. And what kind of stupid person is gonna loot a flood damaged tv anyways? Where do they think they're gonna plug it in? :roll:

This is all CRAZY! I never imagined that the entire country could be affected so greatly by this hurricane.

On the was to school this morning, the cheapest gas here was $3.79 a gallon. Alabama here, and my city is about 2 hours way from Atlanta.

My dad just called and said that gas stations near his work are out of regular unleaded. Do you realize how crazy this can get??? :o

Our local news said at lunchtime that gas stations in our area will go up another 50 cents or more OVERNIGHT tonight. That just seems ILLEGAL. How can they do that??!!!

It's simple supply and demand. In a single day, the US lost 15-20% of it's petroleum production. That's a huge reduction in supply, and basic laws of economic require a big increase in price in order to balance the supply and the demand. If the prices don't increase high enough, then shortages result because demand exceeds supply. That is what is happening in your area, and that is why prices are going to be hiked again tomorrow. Until we can get our Gulf oil refineries up and running again, the only choice the US gas companies have is to drastically raise prices or to have shortages.

I really do believe that this may be part of the beginnings of what is supposed to happen.

This gas crisis could very well cripple this and other nations. With the cost of gas going up, the industries and commerce, especially the trucking industries are going to have to push their cost up also. Of course this will be reflected back on the consumer in higher and higher product costs. This could very well result in a depression.

I very well could see Israel discovering oil and according to prophecy, becoming a very wealthy nation, very quickly. This would bode bad for others, like russia who would launch an attack, bringing together some very serious prophecies.

Don't know, but with all that is happening lately, like the eviction of Israel from the Gaza, we are folding time up very quickly. I really think God is getting ready for some serious events to begin.

We're around 3.05 per gal here. A couple stations ran out nite before last because of the mad dashes to catch it at 2.62.
I just heard on CNN that the feds released a bunch of the oil reserves and they also lowered the something or another that controlls pollution in Gas. Something about the rate at wich it (gas?) evaporates. That measure will stay into effect until mid Sept. (I can hear the tree huggers crying, " down with bush, down with bush!"

Easley Calls For Gas Conservation In N.C.

RALEIGH, N.C. -- With Gulf Coast supplies blocked by the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Gov. Mike Easley urged North Carolina motorists Wednesday afternoon to conserve gasoline until electricity and pipeline pumping stations are restored in the damaged areas.

North Carolina gas stations usually keep a five-to-seven-day supply of gasoline on hand, but they have not been resupplied since Sunday, Easley said.

"We're not out of gas, but we are running low in the Southeast," Easley said at a news conference.

Several Southeastern states are waiting for power to come back on and direction from the federal government so that gasoline can keep flowing along two major pipelines.

"We don't have a shortage of gasoline. We have a delivery problem," said Bill Weatherspoon, executive director of the North Carolina Petroleum Council, which represents major gasoline retailers.

Roughly 90 percent of North Carolina gas comes from the Colonial and Plantation pipelines originating in Houston, Texas, and going through hard-hit areas in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

Easley also asked North Carolina residents to wait for more information before deciding whether to make Labor Day travel plans. He also has banned all nonessential state government travel and asked the U.S. Department of Energy to waive a rule that requires metropolitan areas to use cleaner-burning fuel during summer months.

"With careful use of precious fuel, consumers can help us weather this latest storm," the governor said in a news release.

The rapidly rising prices have caused a problem with old gas pumps that can't compute prices higher than $2.99 a gallon, so North Carolina regulators said stations with the old machines can measure fuel by the half gallon.

The change by the state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services announced Wednesday means the total sale would appear to be half price on the pump but the customer would be charged the full price at the cash register, the department said.

About 25 percent of pumps in the state are mechanical, said Jerry Butler, who oversees gas pump inspections for the state.

Yeah, Georgia's not in a good state right now, but we aren't alone. It was thought that the state would be out of gas by morning... :-?

I'm in Arkansas, and in my town, the prices are at $2.99 at the lowest, but things could change soon. On Monday, there was about three gas stations in our town that ran out of rg. unleaded. The store I work at was one of the lowest in town at the time, and we were busier than I've ever seen it on a Monday, and I've worked there now for over two years.

I'm in a neighboring town, here at school, and their prices are actually in the $2.80 range. Can you believe that? I just may fill up before I leave this afternoon.

With gas prices on the rise, all the other products that are shipped to stores will go up as well. With everything going up in cost, and wages staying the same, this could become a scary place. I'm afraid of what could happen if people become crazed lunatics when they go shopping.

I agree with Lyric's Dad; we could be seeing the beginnings of fulfillment of some prophecies here. I'm not claiming to be an expert or anything, but it's a possibility...

Gas was $2.59 on Monday. $2.79 on Tuesday and Wednesday and today its $3.00. Atleast the best quality gas station was the cheapest where I normally go. The lower grade stations and normally cheapest ones were about .15 to .20 cents more expensive.

At our UPS the drivers use gas cards all the time anyway so its no big deal here.

I think this is a hint of what can happen if the wrong people have their hands on the pulse of the oil distribution. I can imagine things being a whole lot worse though.
