I was taught from a young age, that Noah preached 120 years warning people of the flood.
I have a question:
In Gen.5:32 Noah was 500 years old. He could have been well over that by the time God told him about the flood and to build an Ark.
In Gen.7:6 He was 600 when entering the Ark.
My question is,how could he preach 120 years in 100 year span.
I really need help with this,
Thanks

Were you taught that it was 120 years, or it states that in the Bible?

Hi there joseph lentz. The answer to your question is to go back to very early date setting. You have to realize that these were primitive times. This is how Noah's age was set....The dating that I'm going to give to you is from the Hebrew text, the Samaritan Pentateuch, the Septuagint, and Josephus.

And Noah was the son of five hundred years. - A man is the son of a certain year, in and up to the close of that year, but not beyond it. Thus, Noah was in his six hundredth year when he was the son of six hundred years....What does this tell us? Noah could have just turned 500 at the beginning of the 500th year, and when he entered the ark, he could have been at the end of the 600th year. If so, that's a total of 200 years, approx.

I hope this helps, my new friend. Glad to have you aboard this fantastic Forum. I'll be honored to answer any further questions.
