The book
I just read this book in one sitting. It takes a lot for me to do that.
I highly suggest people read this book.
The author reviews the sex trade as well as the slave labor that exists throughout the world, including the US. Not just statistics, but actual stories of individuals as well. It focuses on organizations that are helping to free these modern slaves that go unnoticed.
I'm not sure if the author is a Christian, but honestly I don't care. Most of the organizations that were focused upon were Christian.
There are stories that may disturb you and be graphic, but we as followers of Christ must begin to look beneath the surface of our "Christian Ghettos" and see what is happening in the world without the rose colored glasses. Jesus didn't stick around his little group and hide himself from suffering. If He didn't then a book describing the suffering should only infuriate or sadden you or both. But either way it should motivate into action.
Sorry about the last paragraph, it is a personal issue I have with the "Christian community" at large.
