Does the Old Testament Law in Numbers 5 allow for abortion in certain circumstances, or was it a protective measure for women in ancient Israel?

I was surprised to see this post as this is such a controversial issue. For me I can't even see the word without being upset.

I can't say what the Bible says as I am not a Biblical scholar. But I do believe that abortion is a sin even if it saves the life of the mother. Even if the baby comes from rape. Before I knew God I felt differently. So when my children were teenagers and I got pregnant by mistake I had the procedure. I passed out and woke up in tears. It destroyed my life for years. I could not forgive myself. I tried desperately to believe that while I killed my baby his or her soul was not with another woman. This did not ease my pain. Finally, I turned to my pastor. We got down on our knees and I asked for forgiveness. God did forgive me but I cannot forgive myself. If I had to do all over again I would have the baby be part of an open adoption. I say these things out loud, as painful as it is, because if I could talk to other women who wrestle with this issue I would say that you will always regret your decision unless you put the baby first. There are no accidents. This baby was meant to be.

P.S. My first pregnancy was the result of rape, but I had my baby anyway. She was the most wonderful human being I have ever known. She was mine for 45 years until God took her home. I cannot imagine life without her. Trust God always.
