1 John 2:1-29

My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

Confession Of Sin Continue From vs. 8-2:1-2, Proverbs 28:13 , Obedience To His Commandments 3-6, Love For One Another 7-14, Love Of The World 15-17, Spirit Of The Antichrist 18-27, Purity Of Life 28-29

  • [1 John 2:1-2 NLT] 1 My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. 2 He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins--and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.

Yup, that IS what it says. It also says this ...

  • [1 John 2:3-6 NLT] 3 And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments. 4 If someone claims, "I know God," but doesn't obey God's commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. 5 But those who obey God's word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. 6 Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.
So did you have a point to make?
Perhaps there was something you wanted to say about 1 John 2.

Yeah! I pointed out in the book of Proverbs chapter 28:13 as a reference, but The Lord knows them that do Love him and keeping his commandments, and having mercy.

Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
1 John 2:3-6

  • He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him

One point that can be made from this passage is about the phrase “I know Him” or “I know God”.

This same John, taught us that “I know Him” is the definition of eternal life.

And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. John 17:3

So if I claim to “know Him”, to have eternal life, yet I don’t keep His commandments, then I’m a liar, and the truth is not in me.

This is for good reason, since the very definition of love is to keep His commandments.

For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. 1 John 5:3

Same John.

again

“If you love Me, keep My commandments. John 14:15

Same John.
