I saw the entire "Evolution" series from PBS and the evidence was overwhelmingly convincing.

I admit that the Bible is simply in error when dealing with creation.

I know basically zilch about evolution. I do know something about cosmology and I think it is too bad that some Christians desperately cling to a YEC model when the scientific evidence so overwhelmingly contradicts it. The Christian witness is hurt when we cling to beliefs that are manifestly false.

It's not that I disagree, it's more that I don't see the need to come into a thread where Creationists are goofing around and pee in their cornflakes.

The Bible is the Word of God.

God spoke to us in a language. If we go back and translate that language into our language, we will see clearly that God told us HOW and WHEN He created.

He did it by speaking.

He did it 6,000 years ago.

If someone believes man over God, that is up to them.

But I believe the Bible, thus I believe in YEC.

Eh, so much for harmless fun.

If we read the Bible as it was intended, it's clearly meant to be allegory. If we go by Gods Word as illustrated to us through his gospel and through his creation, it's clear exactly how the world came to be.

He did it through a complex and beautifully organic process involving billions upon billions of stars gradually evolving and ultimately culminating in the Earth, the result of His grand design.

He did it over the course of 13.5 billion years in order to demonstrate His timelessness and infinite patience.

If someone believes YECs over God, that is up to them.

But I believe in God, and thus I don't believe YEC.

I guess that non-argument goes both ways.

Was Jesus a literal person or a figurative person?

How about these guys:

Luke 3
23Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph,
the son of Heli, 24the son of Matthat,
the son of Levi, the son of Melki,
the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph,
25the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos,
the son of Nahum, the son of Esli,
the son of Naggai, 26the son of Maath,
the son of Mattathias, the son of Semein,
the son of Josech, the son of Joda,
27the son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa,
the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel,
the son of Neri, 28the son of Melki,
the son of Addi, the son of Cosam,
the son of Elmadam, the son of Er,
29the son of Joshua, the son of Eliezer,
the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat,
the son of Levi, 30the son of Simeon,
the son of Judah, the son of Joseph,
the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim,
31the son of Melea, the son of Menna,
the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan,
the son of David, 32the son of Jesse,
the son of Obed, the son of Boaz,
the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon,
33the son of Amminadab, the son of Ram,
the son of Hezron, the son of Perez,
the son of Judah, 34the son of Jacob,
the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham,
the son of Terah, the son of Nahor,
35the son of Serug, the son of Reu,
the son of Peleg, the son of Eber,
the son of Shelah, 36the son of Cainan,
the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem,
the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,
37the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch,
the son of Jared, the son of Mahalalel,
the son of Kenan, 38the son of Enosh,
the son of Seth, the son of Adam,
the son of God.

Which of these people are literal and which of these people are figuartive?

And how do you determine which are which?

Psalm 90:4
For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

2 Peter 3:8
But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

They may all be literal. It doesn't hurt the scientific position much if they are. It dead-ends at Adam, right? And Adam is called "Son of God", yes? Aren't we all the children of God? So even if there were people before Adam, would Adam not be the son of God?

At any rate, perhaps the listing is just sloppy, and omits a bunch of people from the middle of the list. I mean, would Luke really want to have to list 2 million years worth of human beings? :)

I don't understand what you are saying.

If it says that Jesus is the son of Joseph, does that mean that He was actually the great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great -great-great-great-great-great - great-great-great-great-great grandson of Joseph? :o

Why not just believe the Bible?

Believe in the Bible (which version of it do you read, by the by?) or believe in your interpretation of the Bible?

Believe the Bible as in read it and just accept what it says without adding a pre-conceived bias to what it says so that one doesn't try to force the Bible to fit what they want it to say.
