Okay so I was challenged from 1 Kings 12 today.
The preacher talked about Jeroboam who tried to combine true worship with his own ideas, and a false altar in Dan.
He went directly against Exodus 20 and conditions in Israel got worse and worse over the next generations, so that when Israelites started performing human sacrifices, the Lord 'pulled the plug' and allowed Israel to go into captivity for 70 years.
This is all very sobering and searching, in terms of how we get to live the Christian life. Scripture has such examples and warnings: there is the blessedness of being faithful, or the consequences of being the opposite.
I found it searching, anyway.
Blessings.
