Was the crucifixion of Jesus a Passover sacrifice, or an Atonement sacrifice?
I'm researching this topic and was looking for the different views out there in forumland...
Can someone please tell me why/how "under the guidelines of the OT", how Jesus' crucifixion was an atonement sacrifice?
Some Items to consider.....
1. The Feast Days of the Lord: Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, Pentecost, Trumpets, Atonement, Tabernacles.
- The Jewish Feast Days concern the 1st and 2nd comings of Messiah.
- Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits were fulfilled at the Death,Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus. Pentecost happened 50 days later.
- Trumpets, Atonement, Tabernacles will be fulfilled at the Second Coming of Jesus. This will be fulfilled in the Rapture, 2nd Coming and Millennial Kingdom period in the future.
2. The word "Atonement" is found in the Bible 81 times.....80 of which are in the OT, 1 is in the NT.
Is Jesus' sacrifice really an atonement sacrifice as some would suggest? If so, why is the subject (or, word "Atonement") only mentioned once in the NT. This is a very big issue in Christianity....do we have it right?
Is Jesus' sacrifice a Passover sacrifice just like the original except on a grander scale?
- In the OT, at Passover, God commanded the believers to sacrifice a lamb and brush the blood on the doorposts...Those believing God, did as he required, thus causing the Angel of Death to pass by. Those who didn't suffered the consequences.
- In the NT, Jesus the Lamb of God was crucified (at Passover). Just like in the OT believers spread the blood of the lamb upon the doorposts of their homes, the causing the Angel of Death 2nd death to pass by, NT believers spread the Blood of the Lamb of God on the doorposts of their hearts, thus causing the Angel of Death to pass by them.
In the OT as far as I can determine (correct me please if I am wrong), the Passover lamb was not an Atonement sacrifice. The Atonement sacrifice was reserved for Yom Kippur. The Passover sacrifice is just that, a "Pass-over" sacrifice.
-Another interesting item....During the Atonement sacrifice of Yom Kippur, the sins of the people are transferred to a Goat and the Goat is sacrificed for the Atonement.....The different aspects of Yom Kippur indicate that the 2nd coming of Messiah will occur then....will the transference of sins to the goat that is sacrificed at Yom Kippur be the Atonement for mankind? Will the sins of the people be transferred upon the AntiChrist, and his destruction as the Atonement?
I believe that Jesus the Messiah was/is the Passover Lamb.......I suspect that the future False messiah may be the Goat of Yom Kippur, whose sins the people are transferred upon.....
Still trying to work out the kinks.....Do some research on the Feast days and sacrifices associated with them and opine.......
What say you?
