Hi sister Gail i have a little bad news they are going to close Peters Place in June because of the economy i will be fine but please say a prayer for the others here who will have no place to go.GOD richly bless you brother danny

My friend at Cambridge Dove just forwarded this message to me from Danny in NY. Peter's Place is a non profit organization in NY that helps the homeless. Gail and I donate articles of clothing, blankets, etc. etc. to Peter's Place to help the homeless, and these places are so far and few between to help them from the elements with a hot meal and a bed for the night. This is hope being yanked out of their hands due to the economy.

And this just really breaks my heart over this situation. Please keep this organization in your prayers that something changes to where they can remain open to help these poor people from being out in the street, and that Peter's Place is given a miracle to conintue to bless others in desparate need. Or that our Lord according to HIS will has something else for them that may be better. These people are caught in a bad way between loosing their jobs, and not being able to find another, to loosing their homes, and yes sometimes their familes, to their SS not being available yet, to the state can't help them with no permenate address. This has been just a tearful heartbreak for us.........

I will definitely be praying for them Carol! I have a friend that runs a drop in shelter for street kids in Denver called, "Sox Place" and I know how hard the economy is hitting great places like these.

I will keep them in my prayers, Carol. I have spoken to many people about the homeless and its a shame that so many hold a negative opinion of them. I've heard people say some very hurtful things, one even told me "I'd rather help stray dogs because they do not choose to be homeless." :shame

locally we have a christian based transitional homeless shelter for women and their kids and a huge program that they go through.
It is amazing to see and visit and hear the stories and witness they have to a huge number of people and their families showing God's love in a practical way. This shelter aims to turn around these lives not just give them shelter like so many. They retrain these women in different jobs (I was told one did welding) while providing child minding (as they are not going to be able to support a family being a waitress) they have a huge program about 2 yrs long that they go through covering budgeting amongst a huge variety of things.

It's an amazing place and great to volunteer (though a lot of volunteering is to do with children which I am not good with) and I personally feel better money going there than some non christian place.

It's hard to believe that there are so many people who would disagree with us (not mentioning any names :nono )

People who have the wealth, it's hard for them to relate to the homeless. Kind of reminds me of a verse in a poem of mine "An old women begs for money, he's to rich and superior to share the taste of honey. As she clings to his legs pleading with her eyes, he kicks her from him going on with his life."

One of those times when God opens your eyes to the extent of our societies selfish nature while driving down the road and observing your surroundings. I could only write a poem about it. Hurts to see a homeless person laying down under over passes and making them their shelters. Lost a friend who lost everything from loosing his job, to loosing his home, then the wife and kids, struggling to find another job. Then he lost the car he was sleeping/living in, towed away and couldn't afford the fees. He was 40 years old, and they found him a few blocks from where his soon to be ex wife, and two childrens apartment, he was frozen to death sleeping under an overpass. His name was Bo, and I haven't forgotten him, though our society did.

The sad thing? Many, many, many of these homeless people were like you and me. They had good jobs, living the american dream. Some lost their jobs from injuries and never recovered, some lost their jobs to the younger generations, some lost their jobs from companies folding, or having to do layoffs to stay in business a few more years so not to collaspe due to the economy. Some of these people are widows/widowers that once the spouse died, they lost everything from hospital bills, to no insurance, expensive medications/illness, to being stuck on SS and property taxes/home improvements rates go up, and their SS no longer covers the basic needs and being able to keep the homes they raised their families in, then the state takes it from them. Some are mental patience that families just toss out into the streets, their adults it's not their problem attitude. And yes there's some that are there by choice, just because how our society has based everything on the almighty dollar instead of the almighties children. Sad but true, and as soon as people realize the homeless are us......very, very, easily.....then maybe hearts will show more compassion when seeing a brethern on the streets struggling. All it takes is an umbrella, or a blanket, or your lunch you just bought from Mc D's, or band-aids/neosporen, or a roll of plastic, or a bottle of water, or a tent/sleeping bag, or a pillow, or a cooler with food in it, or a pair of socks, or a scraf, or a................. All it takes is carrying some items in the trunk of your car to help according to the time of season. Like a gallon zip lock with the basics for a woman or man of deoderant, tooth paste/toothbrush, brush/comb, bar soap, wipes, shampoo/rinse, bottle of aspirin, shaving cream/disposable razor, and a towel and wash cloth. They do use gas station restrooms at times to clean up, but these are the things they need year round. Something to think about, and it doesn't take up much room in your car trunk. :thumb
