People who have the wealth, it's hard for them to relate to the homeless. Kind of reminds me of a verse in a poem of mine "An old women begs for money, he's to rich and superior to share the taste of honey. As she clings to his legs pleading with her eyes, he kicks her from him going on with his life."
One of those times when God opens your eyes to the extent of our societies selfish nature while driving down the road and observing your surroundings. I could only write a poem about it. Hurts to see a homeless person laying down under over passes and making them their shelters. Lost a friend who lost everything from loosing his job, to loosing his home, then the wife and kids, struggling to find another job. Then he lost the car he was sleeping/living in, towed away and couldn't afford the fees. He was 40 years old, and they found him a few blocks from where his soon to be ex wife, and two childrens apartment, he was frozen to death sleeping under an overpass. His name was Bo, and I haven't forgotten him, though our society did.
The sad thing? Many, many, many of these homeless people were like you and me. They had good jobs, living the american dream. Some lost their jobs from injuries and never recovered, some lost their jobs to the younger generations, some lost their jobs from companies folding, or having to do layoffs to stay in business a few more years so not to collaspe due to the economy. Some of these people are widows/widowers that once the spouse died, they lost everything from hospital bills, to no insurance, expensive medications/illness, to being stuck on SS and property taxes/home improvements rates go up, and their SS no longer covers the basic needs and being able to keep the homes they raised their families in, then the state takes it from them. Some are mental patience that families just toss out into the streets, their adults it's not their problem attitude. And yes there's some that are there by choice, just because how our society has based everything on the almighty dollar instead of the almighties children. Sad but true, and as soon as people realize the homeless are us......very, very, easily.....then maybe hearts will show more compassion when seeing a brethern on the streets struggling. All it takes is an umbrella, or a blanket, or your lunch you just bought from Mc D's, or band-aids/neosporen, or a roll of plastic, or a bottle of water, or a tent/sleeping bag, or a pillow, or a cooler with food in it, or a pair of socks, or a scraf, or a................. All it takes is carrying some items in the trunk of your car to help according to the time of season. Like a gallon zip lock with the basics for a woman or man of deoderant, tooth paste/toothbrush, brush/comb, bar soap, wipes, shampoo/rinse, bottle of aspirin, shaving cream/disposable razor, and a towel and wash cloth. They do use gas station restrooms at times to clean up, but these are the things they need year round. Something to think about, and it doesn't take up much room in your car trunk.
