1 Cor 9.5 Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?
From that simple statement, made several years after the Lord's ascension, we have another little indication that the gospels (and the epistles) speak the truth.
How?
Because
Luke 4:38 And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon’s house. And Simon’s wife’s mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her.
If Simon's (Cephas') wife had a mother, then it follows that Simon had a wife!
So Corinthians confirms Luke (and Matt and Mark) and Luke confirms Corinthians - and neither one mentions the other!
And here's another little indication (the best sort!):
Lk 4.40 Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.
No reason is given for this evening healing session, but one is not hard to find, even though the writer doesn't even bother to make the connection.
As far as he is concerned, he is speaking the truth, and lets it fall where it may.
Here's the reason:
Luke 4:38 And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon’s house. And Simon’s wife’s mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her.
Therefore, it was the sabbath day.
The sabbath ended at sundown! So they felt able to come to Him then.
Hence, "...at even, when the sun did set, the sick, O Lord, around thee lay..."
