Pistons, Pacers, and Fans fight

I saw that, definitely upsets me that fans can't just enjoy the game without getting into it. I don't advocate the fight between players either, but the refs typically have that under control. When 40,000 fans start getting into it that can cause injury and death.

Exactly. Not only should the players know how to control themselves better, but where was the security? It was like people were just flying onto the court. I think from now on we'll see a lot more security at the games.
Players shouldn't be picking a fight with 40 some seconds left. Maybe now they'll realize how silly and consequential it can be. And Artest should have known better than to go and try to attack a fan, no matter what they might throw at you or say. He's just adding fuel to the fire by doing anything. Let the security take care of him. But geese, those Detroit fans were just nuts! Alcohol was definitely a part of it...

ESPN analysts made a good point that kids shouldn't be exposed to this kind of violence, even while they replayed the brawl over and over and over and over..... I think they are still playing it....  .

I'm really shocked that Ben Wallace only got a 5 game suspension....what's up with that? He pretty much gave the green light for throwing things after he threw his headband at Artest.

I think it's 6 games actually. But I see what you mean. I'm wondering if he would have been suspended at all if we didn't see that reaction from the fans. Maybe for one game? Some are saying that Artest hit him pretty hard on the foul. Maybe now players will think twice before reacting like he did.

The values of sportsmanship, humility and self control have been replaced with love of self and win at any cost.

This kind of behaviour is the result.

Every area of life in our nation is deteriorating.

Sports in general are a reflection of this fact.

These are perilous times.

2 Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2 Timothy 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

2 Timothy 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

2 Timothy 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

Rodney Dangerfield said that he went to a boxing match and a hockey game broke out.

Times have changed, I was watching a basketball game and a hip-hop awards show broke out.

I HATE NBA basketball.

Artest should be banned for life. I'm upset Artest only got kicked out for the rest of the season - and Oneil should have been kicked out, too. The NBA is overrun with thugs, drug addicts, and criminals. Not only that, but it is exteremly boring to watch.I think they should make the NBA like cricket. When the ref makes a call, you MUST accept it. Any arguing will lead to a foul, a fine or a suspension.

Some think that the suspensions are too tough, but I'm glad they're tough. Show these guys that there have to be consequences for your actions. Now maybe they'll realize that their actions influence a lot, and DO have consequences. These guys need to be punished if they're not going to show control. It's supposed to be professional sports, isn't it?

I personally think that Artest's punishment is too harsh. Ben Wallace and the Detroit fans are more at fault than he was. Ben started the whole thing and Artest was fairly calm and ready to let it go, until the beer hit him in the face. I would have the same reaction as he would. If I just got shoved by the throat by Ben Wallace and landed on the scorers table, I would probably just lay down there and try to stay calm while my teammates jump on the guy that that shoved me. But while I'm laying therel, my adrenaline is still rushing and I would still be mad about the situation. A beer in my face would cause a sudden change in my calmness. But I'm not going to justify his actions. Maybe if he had actually attacked the right man it wouldn't have been so bad and turned into a huge riot. Now the Pacers don't have any chance of having a decent season.

What exactly did Jermaine O'Neil do? I never saw him do anything. Can someone please clarify that for me. I think Stephen Jackson's suspension should be worse than Ron Artest's. Artest was just reacting to someone's actions, while he was already mad because of Wallace's actions. Stephen Jackson didn't have a legitimate motive at all. He just joined his teammate in pummelling people that didn't do anything that terrible to him. The fans might have been saying and throwing things, but not directly at him. I'm sure there are idiotic fans at every game that like to torment the opposing team. It's sad that both Jermaine O'Neil, and Stephen Jackson claim to be Christians, but act like that.

BTW, NBA basketball is not boring at all. Basketball is not boring at all. In fact it's the most interesting, fun sport to watch. I think you should stop judging basketball players in the NBA. Not all of them are bad. I know of a lot of Christians in the NBA. Allan Houston is one of God's Children and he feels that God wants him to play basketball. It's his purpose. God gave him athletic ability, so he uses it to reach others with God's word. Go to his website. http://www.allanhouston.com/newmain4.cfm?id=1 He seems like an awesome person that is devoted to God.

O'neil cold cocked a fan that came out on the floor. I think if you go out on the floor you're fair game.

I personally think the beer wouldn't have been thrown at Artest if Ben Wallace didn't first throw something at Artest. Too bad, I always liked Ben as a player.

The only difference I can see between what Jackson and Artest did was Artest was 1. the first one to charge the fans, and 2. he punched a guy on the court which I didn't see Jackson do. There is a difference between hitting guys on the court and hitting them in the stands, although I think both should definitely be punished. Punching someone on the court is debateable so O'Neal got the lesser of the three suspensions. Jackson, for actually charging into the stands where no player is supposed to be and hitting people, got five more than him for that. Artest got the whole seasons for charging the fans and punching a guy. I personally think Jackson should have gotten at least half of what Artest got. Artest got 70 some games and Jackson got just 30. Give him at least 35.

I didn't know Jackson and O'Neal called themselves Christians, but I did think that Jermaine was a pretty level headed guy. I was dissapointed to see all of them act that way. Now maybe the whole league will begin to think twice.

NBA basketball is boring. Dribble down the court, throw it to the big man, he makes a move, he makes it or is fouled. Why do 'PRO' basketball players get 6 fouls while college players get 5? Seems like if you are good enoug to play in the NBA you should be able to play defense without fouling almost every time down the court.

I never said there weren't any Christians in the NBA. That was weird.

College basketball is much more fun to watch, in MY OPINION. It's funny that you can just say, "The NBA is not boring" - like its a fact and not an opinion.

I like how Artest and his buddies are saying that he was 'defending himself'. Seems to me if you are defending yourself, you try to keep from getting hit with a paper cup full of beer - not rush the crowd and start pummelling people - especially when you don't know who it was who threw something at you. Let the authorities find the fans responsible and punish them for throwing stuff out on the court. There is NO excuse for hitting fans - even if they come out on the court.

I disagree. People who run on the playing area of professional sports are almost all either drunk or mentally disturbed or both. Stadiums have security, but even so, it is possible that a weapon could have been slipped in. The players should not have to take the risk of another Seles or worse. If a fan wanders onto the court, they need be subdued and removed as quickly as possible, and this is going to require force from the players sometimes.

Stephen Jackson was not 'subduing' fans. He was clocking them in the face with his fist. I think there is a difference.

I take that statement back. I found out today from sports radio that Artest, while laying on the table, looked at Wallace, grabbed himself, and called Ben the "B" word. After this ben threw his wristban at Artest. Sounds like Artest has a lot to do with this whole thing, start to finish.

Go figure, one of the most respected retired pro basketball players, Larry Bird, is fighting against Ron Artests suspention and defending the guy. :o

Basketball is a great game, but they need to get the thug mentality out of the game, but not to the point that everyone is Nintendo buddies. A good rivalry like bird and Magic is good for the game.

The fans were hitting Jacksons fist with their faces. A blatent attack against an innocent NBA player. :-D

I found this information a the pacers website under the players biographies.

Lists his mother, Angela Kennedy, and his high school coach, George Glymph as his personal heroes, as well as Jesus Christ --Jermaine O'Neal
