Real estate agents say "Location, location, location!" is important.

For those with experience in the world of ink, especially for those who are embarking on their first tattoo, "Placement, placement, placement!" is very important, too.

Especially if the design is going to be faith based, right?

I saw this about a popular placement:

"The demand for tattoos among women has grown exceptionally. One of the most popular places that girls love to get tattooed is their wrist. ..Girls often use fashionable wrist jewelery to have a stylish look. Most of the girls don't leave their wrist bare and completely utilize it to add a unique fashion element to their appearance. ..Wrist tattoos for girls are a great place to initiate the tattoo journey." buzzle, Mamta Mule.

Fact is, so many young ppl are planning their first ink, and some are young Christians looking for placement ideas for their first, faith based ink.

Ideas, reactions, folks, about the wrist as a suitable placement for faith based ink?

As the proud owner of five tattoos and as a Christian I would suggest this.

Male: Upper arms (where mine are), calf, chest, and upper back. Forearms, wrist, hands and neck are available but with that placement you might draw criticism, limit job options as well as put forward a more secular look.

Female: Placement on the female body is more difficult because of modesty issues. In my opinion placement options include ankles (where my wife has hers), feet and upper back. The same caveat as above applies.

I think there are two roads when choosing design and placement. One, this design is significant and special to me. I am getting this design because [blank]. I and those I choose will be the only ones to see it. Two, this design is significant and special to me. I am getting this design because I want the world to know something.

I use mine when talking to people about God. Most people don’t expect Christians to be inked. It challenges preconceived notions and opens a pathway that otherwise would be closed. But even without that they are special to me. All five of them remind me who I am and what I hold close.

As a Christian getting their first tattoo it is up to you to do your due diligence. You have to study. Your relationship with God is not mine. I have decided that for me and as I read the Word that a tattoo is not a sin. You make up your own mind.

Much love to all

RockyVanRen:

Thanks a lot for your helpful and considered comments.

So regarding the various placements which you mentioned in relation to your and your wife's faith based tattoos, are your upper arms, chest and upper back, and her ankle and upper back areas, filled now? or have you guys got scope to consider more ink there? or would you guys also consider other placements?

Thanks again, and I'm sure you guys have had lots of conversations with folk (which was one of the reasons for starting this another threads).

The best place for a tattoo is on someone else.:thumbsup

I would never get one.

Just my $.02

I'm with Nacho.

No way I'd mark my body.

Heck, I have never to seen a piece of artwork I'd want to hang on my wall forever, much less my body.

For now it’s just my upper arms. I have a feeling that the next one will be on my left wrist (covered with a watch at work) but I don’t know what it will be. I feel that almost any placement is ok. I was reading another thread somewhere (it was a thread entitled “Beerâ€) and it referenced a kind of measuring system base on a question. In that thread it was would you offer Jesus a beer? Personally, I’m really liking this system. So, in our case the question would be, would you show Jesus your tattoo? I can answer with a yes.

Tonka, you also make a valid point. It is important to remember that (God willing) 60 years from now, after gravity has done its work, that ink will still be with you.

RockyVanRen:

I posted the previous post before seeing your reply here.

So you certainly haven't finished your plans for more tattooing.

Yes, wrist is increasingly popular (and especially with women, who may also wear a bracelet there, right?)

Have you guys kind of planned your placement strategy together? and was it you or she that initiated the tattoo journey first?

Honestly, I think we posted at the exact same time cause I didn’t see your question before I posted. The reason I decided on my wrist is for its visibility. When it comes to covering a wrist tat a lot of stuff works (wrist bands, bracelets, watches, band aids, etc.). We have talked at length about the overall subject but have never set down a plan. My wife is pretty much done. She has one and that’s all she wants. I on the other hand… Now, because we are of one flesh I do ask her for her opinions. But as head of the family I make the final call (the dynamics of this require a whole other thread :lol)

RockyVanRen:

Well, I guess it affects different people in different ways.

But it seems that for very many people, once you have started going under the needle, they will keep going back again. And again.

I guess if there is also the particular motivation for the ink to be faith based in design, leading to lots of conversations, the urge can be even stronger, right?

Upper arm is kind of a traditional placement, certainly, but lower arm and wrist are definitely becoming more and more popular, too, right?

I don’t know if it’s the endorphins or what but once you get the first one the draw is most definitely there to get more. You have to be careful. You have to be stronger then that urge. Because if your not you will end up with something you won’t like in ten years or worse yet, a fad design.

If you want to talk traditional you’ll need to look at the culture more then current time. In North America upper arm is traditional. Japans criminal element tattooed everywhere but the head, neck and hands. In the Hawaiian tradition the artist makes all the calls. Some cultures even tattoo on the face. Lower arm and wrists are becoming more main stream in the US.

Interesting; thanks.

I hadn't thought of the endorphins thing.

But anyway, as for lower arm and wrists becoming more mainstream in the US, I wonder what it must be like for all you guys that are maybe at the 'cutting' edge (no pun intended, but you'll known what I mean) of ever more popular placements? especially if they combine a time honored, faith based message in more recently popularized locations. I guess you guys have them particularly for faith presentation reasons?

From what the people I’ve talked have said I’ve gather that it’s hard to push the limits of culture and society. When it comes to tattoos people have a lot of thoughts, from looks and theology. Just like us Christians, a lot of people don’t want to hear what we have to say.

My wife, sister-in-law and their mother all have the same tattoo on the same place. I got mine foremost for myself. It just so happened that I used them once when I was talking to a friend. We get used by God in interesting ways.

RockyVanRen:

I see.

Very interesting.

Sounds like yours was a very personal, individual thing. Like, you knew what you wanted, and no-one else.

Sounds like theirs was very much a group urge, that emerged really strongly, whatever they may have earlier said individually.

(If this makes sense...)

You have alot of interest in this area.
Do you do this for a living?
Have your own business?

Riverwolf,

No I'm not in business with it.

We do have a parlor up the road from us.

I think you voted in the poll in favor of considering the wrist placement. Do have any specific reason for your preference?

It's all rather topical, I guess, as a subject.
