I started a Christian blog several months ago called, "Confidence And Joy." http://www.ConfidenceAndJoy.com My purpose is to provide content that will help Christians to have more confidence in God so that they can live their lives with more joy.

It has articles, audio and video podcasts, and a number of categories. also, if you are interested, on the About page, there is a link to, "This Is My Story," which is a post about my life since age 17.

Take a look around the site - love to hear your comments.

Thanks,

Mike

I like the analogy about the tree bearing fruit twice in a year and how we should give people another chance.

Nice blog Mike.. I see that you are using the Thesis theme. Are you using the podpress plugin... ? If so you also should have the download and the play in a popup settings.. These should have come with your podpress plugin.

Basically this is a good site. The video is a nice touch. However, as a first impression on viewing the page, it does not seem like a unique or special site. It might, if you could make that paragraph next to your photo more prominent and the initial focus. I would not use the word "blog" in that paragraph either -- everyone has a blog, and it doesn't necessarily have a stimulating Christian connotation. Then, if you could make the second focus on the page the first paragraph from the link "about this site," I think first time viewers very quickly would get the feeling there could be something special at the site. Then, in the title at the top, take out "ConfidenceAndJoy.com, and just make "Living Life without Fear," as the lead in -- and it will make a difference to leave the preposition uncapitalized. Or use another slogan, but make it something that conveys a reason to keep looking. However, it all just really depends on what you are trying to accomplish, and no one knows that better than yourself.

Hi Mike,

You've done a great job using Wordpress' potential to add lots of rich features to your site.

Just one quick tip: The content in your "teaser boxes" (see image below) is awkwardly spaced because you're relying on Wordpress to generate it's own "snippet" of the post content.

Depending on your template/theme, you should be able to control the content in these boxes more precisely by writing a dedicated "excerpt" for each post (see the "Excerpt" input box under the main writing box when you're editing a post in wordpress).

If wordpress finds that you've written your own excerpt, it will pull that instead of trying to create one on it's own from the first X characters of post content (which never quite turns out right).

It's kind of a pain to take time and actually write a separate excerpt for each and every post, but it's a good habit to have (because ultimately it makes your site more professional and easier to browse). If you're at a loss, just copy-paste your most powerful paragraph as the excerpt. But if you have time, really try to write something that will interest the reader in the post and make them click.

Plus, excerpts add more unique content for search engines to find!

Note: You CAN go back and write excerpts for old posts. And eventually, you're going to want to.

Also, I agree with M-Paul's point here...
make that paragraph next to your photo more prominent and the initial focus.
You can accomplish that a good background color. See Dan's little box at the top-right of acne.org.

Hope that helps!
