I posted this request somewhere else and because I am very concerned about these sins that I am finding heard to stop I thought I might post here as well.

Anyway, I generally have a fairly good control of my behaviour, not totally always with everything but it’s good in general.

But I find it hard to control my thoughts. What I mean by that is that I seriously sin in my mind. Now my understanding is that thoughts come from the heart.
So can you please pray for me to stop sinning in my heart and mind!

By the way, my real name is also Ervin and my real surname does start with P, I am 42 years old and I live in Melbourne/Australia.

It is hard when this happens.
Satan can put thoughts in your mind. It is temptation.
If I get a bad thought I stop thinking about it and say "No". I rebke satan and send him away in The Name of The Lord Jesus Christ.
When Jesus was tempted He answered with "it is written ...." so quote a verse that forbids that thought.
For example if you was thinking of how to take revenge on someone you could quote Roman's 12:+9 "Beloved, do not avenge yourselves but rather give place to wrath. For it is written 'vengeance is Mine, I will repay' saith The Lord."

One other thing I do is sometimes I say: Jesus is the Lord

since it’s written in1 Corinthians 12:3 the following:

Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.

So every now and again I say again: Jesus is the Lord

That is great Ervin. By doing that you are making satan tremble, and you have proof there that The Holy Spirit is working in you.
 
Continue to feed on the word of God and mediate on what you read. Every time there is a negative thought, recall what you read and learnt. The more time you spend studying the word of God, the more your thoughts drift to what you studied.

David said "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you." Psalm 119:11.
 
I would have to say many of us get certain thoughts in our head that are not good, but our defense to those thoughts are to get rid of them as fast as they come to us as we replace them with better thoughts as we reflect on those things that are pure and good. I don't believe we can control what comes into our mind, but can control the shift from those impure thoughts to go to a better place within our mind.

I really don't see this as much needing prayer as in God fixing this problem, but something you just need to do in replacing those thoughts, but you are in my prayers.

Hi Ervin,

Glad you are here.

May I suggest that you give your mind something deliberate to “chew on“ besides whatever it decides to think about.

Try giving your mind scripture to think about. Otherwise you will be at it’s mercy. This is part of taking your thought life captive and bringing it into obedience, unto Christ.


For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
2 Corinthians 10:4-5
