She's my friend, spiritual mentor, etc. Verna's in her mid to late 70s. I'm 33.

She's had ongoing kidney infections. Problem there is heavy-handed, repeated use of antibiotics (which seems to be --the-- way to treat the infections) causes a number of problems, including low appetite and a reduction in kidney function. Ugh.

So, she's on yet another round of hardcore antibiotics for the latest kidney infection. She's a trooper, and I admire her faith and tenacity. A while back, a specialist decided to make a bunch of money off her insurance by giving her a brand new, once yearly infusion for prevention of osteoporosis. Verna had been taking tablets to do the same thing, but...this inufsion is a big money maker for some doctors, so he pushed it on her.

The results were disastrous. All her lab work went into abnormal territory, she's had surgery, on and on it goes. Things have largely evened out at this point, although she -might- end up needing more iron infusions. Oh, and the infusion somehow triggered these kidney troubles, which is...special. Very, very special.

So, there's all the physical stuff, which honestly...she handles far better than anyone I can think of. And then there's the family stuff...since her husband passed away, her family has been rough on her. I see that this happens, especially to elderly widows, but...man oh man. Its rough. I mean, I don't have to live with it, but...just hearing about it gets to me, at times.

On the plus side, her estranged daughter dropped by her house, with her daughter (verna's grand-daughter) and Verna's 1st great-grandchild, a boy. Good times! Clearly, God is moving in her life, and I'm thankful.

She's close to a brother who lives nearby, and that's good. Verna tries to keep up with other family members, but...a lot of them are too busy, too caught up in their own lives, etc. I guess that happens, especially in the 21st century, but; again, its far from ideal.

I thank God for His work in Verna's life. When she told me about her daughter, grand-daughter, and baby great-grandson stopping by, she started crying...tears of genuine joy. I was (and am) happy for her, and thankful to God for His goodness. And yet..

I know life can be difficult, but I do pray that The Lord will move further in her life, smooth things out with her family, and bring about healing, physically. On the plus side, she's well provided for; she inherited her husband's pension, she has a nice house, reliable transportation, and excellent medical coverage. God has blessed her with a comfortable, modest lifestyle, and I -am- thankful.

OK. Thanks to all of you who keep my family, verna, and me up in prayer. Oh, and most definitely...thanks to all of you who read my many, many posts. I really do appreciate the support, prayers, encouragement, admonishment, etc. I see now that getting genuinely saved is a huge thing, a wonderful thing, but...its really just the beginning of a whole new life, a -real- life, in my case.

Thanks again. :-)
