Single and Widow

The Unmarried and the Widowed

1 Corinthians 7:25-31

I have no command from the Lord,
One by the Lord’s mercy and trust;
By anyone in one accord,
Since God is always fair and just.

I think a virgin in distress,
In the view of a good person;
For a man enabled to bless,
Bond of marriage unto women.

Have you been bonded to a wife?
Do not seek divorce to be free;
Remain with her throughout your life,
Look not for another to be.

If you marry you have not sinned,
If a betrothed woman marries;
Worldly troubles when disciplined,
From the temptation one carries.

The appointed time has grown short,
Let anyone who has wives live;
Those who have none not to consort,
If slept with ask God to forgive.

Those who weep to be in mourning,
Those who feel joy do not rejoice;
Be not intimate by adorning,
Be not seductive in your voice.

Those who deal with things in the world,
As they had no dealings to stray;
Will find their fate to be unfurled,
As this place is passing away.
