So by now, it's all across the world how a woman in Lehi, Utah pulled her twin 2 year old girls' jumpsuits down and placed them on potty seats.... in the dining room of a Thanksgiving Point Deli restaurant.
Now, that this is both unsanitary and uncivilized goes without saying. This brings bad parenting to an all new low... actually, it's so outrageous, it makes me wonder about the mental health of the mother.
However, the reason why everyone knows about this... and I first read about it in a London based newspaper... is that another woman at the restaurant snapped a picture of one of the little half-naked girls sitting on the pot at the table and posted the picture on Facebook.
She also either contacted local news, or had local news contact her.
What is unclear is if she ever actually asked the woman to please not allow the little girls to defecate and/or urinate in the dining hall, or ask the waitstaff of the Deli to do so. The staff at the deli say that they heard numerous complaints, but only after the fact. They said that if they had been told at the time, they certainly would have made the woman leave.
Is this how we handle breeches of etiquette now? Frankly, if anyone had their child half naked and sitting on a pot next to where I was eating, I would have no problem whatsoever of not only immediately alerting the staff, but telling the woman face to face something along the lines of "Oh no....no, no, no.... you will NOT have your children do that here." I don't consider myself a particularly confrontational person and most times I ignore breeches in manners and behavior... but this goes ways beyond just manners.
What I would never consider doing though is going the whole "I'm gonna let the whole world know about your bad behavior" route of recording the incident and posting it on Facebook.
Not only is it not the offending adult whose picture is now flashed world-wide, but that of an innocent, naked two year old girl... but it wasn't Facebook's problem... the incident took place at a restaurant in Lehi, Utah... surely that's the appropriate place to deal with the matter... isn't it?
