A little background info:
I am currently taking a Sociology of Religion course where we look at how religion impacts society and how different religions interact with each other. Very interesting class, and I really like it, but our assignments are primarily reflections on the books we read. Luckily, we've only gone through one book that I did not enjoy, but the one we are on now is called The Good Heart: The Buddhist Perspective on the Gospels, written by Dalai Lama. Very cool read.
Well one of my reflections spoke about how we are called to love our enemies as well as our friends (which is an important aspect of Buddhism as well) In all my reflections, I tend to focus more on the Christian side of things, and this one was no different. I didn't say or do anything extraordinary...but when I got my paper back graded...my professor left a few comments on my paper that were great to see.
For one he simply told me "your words have really reached me....thank you" Then he proceeded to share with me that he had begun to pray for those who have been mean to him, and noted that this was a new step for him. How great is that for him!? He has shared he is a "Jesus follower" and seems to be taking steps in a productive direction. As my Sociology of Religion professor, who has his doctorate as well...this occurrence surprised me because I figured he'd seen everything. Just a testament that God works in mysterious ways on people's hearts!
