"Praise The Lord from the earth,...
Beasts and all cattle;
Creeping things and winged fowl;
...Praise The Lord!"
(Psalm 148:7,10,14)
I think it was yesterday that I had such a nice encounter.
I wanted to bring a letter to the post office, and I had to walk a short distance from my parking place to the office. Half way on the pedestrian walkway, an elderly man turned around, stopped walking and looked at me coming his direction.
First I thought that he was waiting for someone behind me coming to him. But when I arrived at him, he greeted me and smiled. Then he asked if I also would hear "the bugs".
In the moment we have many Cicadas here. And they make such a loud noise, very much like a sirene. So I told him that I heard the Cicadas.
He smiled again, and then he said, "Yes, the bugs are singing. They sing beautifully."
That old man had such a peaceful smile. And he wanted me to enjoy the beautiful song of the Cicadas! We never met before, but he had waited for me to arrive at where he was, in order to tell me about his joy in this singing.
He touched my heart so much. I laid my hand onto his shoulder, for he was a little smaller than I. And I smiled back into his eyes, mixed with tears. And he just smiled all the time!
Finally I said good bye, and went further my way to the office. When I came out I did not see him anymore.
Maybe he was an angel who reminded me of God's wonderful creation, and that we should follow the example of such insignificant creatures, as bugs often are looked at, and give our best to 'praise the Lord'.
Or he was simply a lovely, old man who gave me a moment of joy through his beautiful smile.
"I know every bird of the mountains, and everything that moves in the field is Mine....Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving and pay your vows to the Most High; Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will Honor Me." (Psalm 50:11, 14,15)
"For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made..."(Romans 1:20)
