preventing someone from coming to church?

hi all,

i don't know whether or not i committed a sin, rather a sin that G~d might hold this against me.

back in high school, my friend wanted to come to church to see this girl i liked. of course, i didn't trust him, so i prevented him from coming to church to see the girl i liked. in my past, i've had guys steal my girlfriend. now, is there any scripture in the Holy Bible that says "if you prevent someone from coming to church, G~d will prevent you from entering His Kingdom?"

i'm not sure whether or not that passage exists, but i am starting to worry a lot now. to clarify, my intention was not to prevent him from meeting Jesus, but simply preventing him from meeting the girl of my dreams. did i commit a sin indirectly and would G~d forgive me for this?

on a side note, i did re-invite him again; however he has found a church he is more comfortable with because of the different languages we speak.

thanks in advance.

i am really concerned right now.

31 views and no replies? Methinks some are afraid to tell the truth.

Yes, you sinned. You actively denied (your word "prevented") a person the opportunity to keep the Sabbath day holy. Your assumption that his purpose of attending church might be to steal your girlfriend is not valid.

LOL. It is better to have given a 32nd view and not replied than to give a reply like yours ttg. Going to church keeps the sabbath day holy? ..back your comment up with some scripture that says "goto church on sunday else you defile the sabbath day".

Shred do not worry, Church is not the building where you go to but the body of believers in Christ. We are the Church not the pews and the pulpits. Your heart is in the right place about what you did, your feelings suggest that you repent, so dont worry if Jesus can forgive the ones who nailed Him to the cross He will forgive you and me.

The sabbath is at the heart of Israel's law. To keep the commandments is to correspond to the wisdom and the will of God as expressed in his work of creation.

In speaking of the sabbath Scripture recalls creation: "For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it."

The sabbath, which represented the completion of the first creation, has been replaced by Sunday which recalls the new creation inaugurated by the Resurrection of Christ.

"Observe the sabbath day, to keep it holy" (Deut 5:12). "The seventh day is a sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the Lord" (Ex 31:15).

BTW, TanNinety, I didn't say he wasn't forgiven or can't be forgiven. But purposely avoiding services, Mass, worship...or causing someone else to do so is a sin.

well i am aware that what i did was wrong, but i was pretty young back then and still young now. i'm not even licensed to drink yet or get my full driver's license.

but i've always been insecure and a lot of friends have failed me which i am really disappointed to a point i cannot trust the slightest suspicious one.

i prevented him from coming to church, but my true intention was to prevent him from meeting that girl. if that girl was not at church, i would have invited him.

i'm just a little worried whether or not it relates to a scripture i read about "preventing someone from church = G~d prevents you from Heaven" does that scripture even exist?

Absolutely Not!
The 'church' is a people not a building.
We have all done silly things like that in our lives, I have done alot worse in my past but God has forgiven me.
Once you say, "forgive me Lord"...in sincerity, it's as if it never happened as far as God is concerned.

This is what God's word says...

“If we confess our Sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness†1 John 1:9

God always wants to forgive you when you ask, he loves you very much and he is so merciful, he's for you and not against you.

okay, because i was kind of worried i read something like that.

so this type of sin is forgivable.

right now, my friend (one i prevented from coming to meet that girl) goes to another church now. he says he enjoys it very much. needless to say, our relationship is gone. we're not as close as before.

at this point in time, should i re-invite him again or focus on my newer friends who have not been to my church before?

it's difficult for me to get everyone.

so this type of sin is forgivable.

All sins are forgivable.

All sins are forgivable.

Was there ever a question? It would be unfortunate to question the Divine Mercy.

Oh, the terrible bondage of religion :sad

I think your confusion is @ where what Christ actually said was, "If you deny ME before men, I will deny you before My Father in Heaven...If you are ashamed of Me & My words, I will be ashamed of you"

It's in John 8 - I think - but I must go!

Do see this post @ assurance of salvation:-

John 20 etc say that God wants those who trust in Christ to KNOW U R saved, OK?

30Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31But these are written that you may[a] believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Google sure & certain hope
