The church of the OT or rather the Temples were places for real fellowship. You must appear holy and purified before you enter the Temple. It seemed to be a kind of segregation against unbelievers. You don't go near the Temple at all - once you are impure.

The NT churches or whatever they were called were also holy - sinners were not allowed into the churches - or they were scared to go into them.

However today, churches are for fellowshipping with one another - with sinners also present and participating in areas like the media, band, choir, etc.... Are sinners welcomed

Correct me if I'm wrong.

So who can attempt the thread topic?

You seemed to finally just ask one question.

The answer is, "Of course they are welcome."

In the OT there was only one temple. Only the high priest could enter the holy of holies behind the veil. The other priests could not go there.

We are the NT testament church. If you mean the 1st century church it is an example of how our churches should look today. Unbelievers were welcome to come to hear the scriptures.
Believers were not allowed to corrupt other believers by ignoring the admonition to repent of serious sin and told to leave if they did not.
It doesn't directly say what they did about unbelievers but I don't believe they would have allowed unbelievers to display their sin in a church service. I think there would have been admonition about that as well.

I think we can see this thought in scriptures related to the bond of marriage.
I believe we see that when two people are of the same faith and they are bond in marriage if one defiles that marriage bond the Lord releases them from that bondage. The offender can be put away.
In the case of the unbeliever and the believer we see if the unbeliever is pleased to stay let them stay. But if they are not pleased to stay (they defile the marriage) then the believer is free from bondage to them.
So I think, the Lord does not expect the believer to keep them when they defile the marriage.

I believe it would be the same in the church. If the unbeliever is pleased to be there don't ask them to leave but it they by their actions in the church defile that place they can be told to leave.

The church is the change chamber for sanctification for all Christians who are being save (1 Corinthians 1:18 NIV). When we got saved God delivered you from hell. Now that you and I are being saved, He is delivering us from earth. When we got saved we were delivered from judgment in the future. We are being saved from the effects of sin in history on earth. With salvation came justification and later glorification when we receive our new bodies. While sanctification brings transformation in our lives in history. Glory to our Father in heaven for His amazing grace...how sweet it is.

The Bible tells us what the primary purpose of the church is.

And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ (Eph. 4:11-12 ESV)

What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up.
(I Cor. 14:26 ESV)

The purpose of the church is to equip the saints for works of ministry, so they can build up the body of Christ. Unfortunately, most churches today (at least most I've been to) aren't doing that, but instead put their main emphasis on evangelism. That's the job of the evangelists. They go out to where the people are and call them to salvation. Once they are saved, they come to the church and get built up in their new found faith, so that they can go and minister to others.

Thanks all.

I think the primary purpose is to admit sinners - do that they can come to Light: just like Christ says: 'come to me'. Sinners?

The Great Commission

16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:16-20 NIV
