I saw the movie and it was very well done. The surface story is great! The subtext is even better! But a well made story doesn't make for a 'good' movie. Good as in Christian.

If you know anything about the Alien franchise, you know that it is saturated with allegory! The newest installment is no different, but Prometheus targets the origin of life, the nature of it's creator, and us as creators and the created.

The most haunting allusion that stared me and everyone else in the theater, but I was none the wiser until I had a conversation with a Satanist. He enjoyed the movie. He was all praises. A genuinely nice guy as far as I can tell. It wasn't until after we talked that I realized that Prometheus is the venerated icon of Satanists.

The movie's concept goes as such: A race of Humans, genetically identical to us today, terra-form planets around the galaxy. A renegade populates the planet (earth) with humans through engineering and so the rest of them create a species whose purpose is to kill all life. Of course something goes wrong and we (humans in the year ~2090) happen upon their instalation 2000 years later.

The points that are worth mentioning, since we are the same as our creator, we are gods unto ourselves. A rebellious figure bent on unsubmitting freewill and liberating mandkind from an oppressive figure.

Themes of destruction of creators by their creation, destruction being and precurser to creation, and theistic belief in a good god despite evidence are prominent throughout the film. What ties the these themes together is the android named David who models himself after lawrence of arabia. While the humans struggle to meet their creators, they fail to see how they treat their own creation. The regard of him is as only a tool to be useful. As David attempts to understand his creators, the viewer gains an understanding of the human's creators that ultimately ends in their death.
