Lost in Sin!

I'm feeling lead by the Lord to take a look at the 30th Chapter of the book of Proverbs. I'm not exactly sure of how many parts that this will, be, so I'm totally trusting the Lord on this!
We will start with Proverbs 30:1-4
"The sayings of Agur, son of Jakeh-an oracle. This man declared to Ithiel, to Ithiel & to Ucal: I am the most of ignorant of men; I do not have a man's understanding. I have not learned wisdom, nor have I knowledge of the Holy One. Who has gone up into Heaven & come down? Who has gathered up the wind in the hollow of His hands? Who has wrapped up the waters in His cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, & the name of his son? Tell me if you know!"
This chapter is written by a person that we simply know as Agur. It is possible that he may have some connection with Soloman, since the majority of these proverbs are from Soloman.
Verses 2-3 initially are a little strange to us. It seems that Agur is doing nothing but putting himself down. I mean, look at what he is saying about himself:
1. That he is ignorant.
2. That he doesn't understand.
3. That he is not wise.
4. That he doesn't know God.
But if there is ever one factor in the Bible, it's that there is always a lesson that can be learned. This fact gives us an anticipation for what will be forthcoming in the following verses.
Verse 4 is where we really get into the meat of where this chapter is headed. Through a series of questions, he shows all of us that when it comes to the ways & understanding of God, we are all terribly ignorant! After all, how can someone who is as finite as man, understand & comprehend someone who is as infinate as God?
WHO HAS GONE UP TO HEAVEN & COME DOWN? This question would seem to indicate the many appearences of the pre-incarnate Jesus.
1.Genesis 32:24-the man who wrestled with Jacob.
2. Daniel 3:25-The fourth man in the firery furnace with Shadrach, Meshach, & Abednego.
3. Joshua 5:13-14-The man who Joshua met before the battle for Jericho.
To mention a few. Jesus IS the only person who HAS traveled between Heaven & Earth, (& is going to do it again when He returns!)
WHO HAS GATHERED UP THE WIND IN THE HOLLOW OF HIS HANDS? WHO HAS WRAPPED UP THE WATERS IN HIS CLOAK? WHO HAS ESTABLISHED ALL THE ENDS OF THE EARTH? Needless to say, I don't think that there is any question in Agur's mind what the answer to all these questions are? He is WELL AWARE that it is God! Rather, he is expressing the greatness of God, the creator of everything, as we see in the first chapter of Genesis! Also, all through the book of Psalms, we see David & the other writers extolling the majesty of nature, & the fact that God IS the source of that majesty!
WHAT IS HIS NAME. When Agur asks this question, He already knows the answer to this question! Yet the name of the Lord could not be mentioned by the Jews. It seems that Agur is acknowledging the greatness of the Lord, & expresses a longing to know & understand the God with the name that He cannot say.
....AND THE NAME OF HIS SON? *WOW!* What a prophetical statement! Here is definatly one of the early references to the Christ, the Messiah. It was the norm in the OT, that the son wouuld be the inheritor from his father. And indeed-"The earth is the Lords & everything in it.....".(Psalm 24:1)
Let us pray.
"Heavenly Father, how great You really are in all the earth. How infinate You are that we ignorant, finite little humans can even begin to understand who You are. Yet it IS your wish that we humans WOULD know you. Lord Jesus, it is ONLY because of your coming down to this insignificant little planet, that we truely CAN begin to understand who God really is! You showed us that! Christ Jesus, we can never know why You & You alone came down from the majesty of Heaven to dwell among us, other than to show Your love for each one of us, by dying for each one of our sins, & rising from the dead on the third day, that we may live! We praise Your Name, & Your Name alone, Lord Jesus, that even if it is only the smallest bit, that through You, we CAN know the great love that the Father DOES have for each one of us, & that is enough for us! You showed us that the finite CAN know the infinate, through the power of your Holy Spirit! Reveal to us, O Lord, Your greatness, that we my be Your witnesses to the world! We ask this in Your Name alone, Lord Jesus! Amen!"
