Bible Study Psalm 23

What do you guys think about this psalm? I say we post a line each from it and say what it means:

23:1 "The Lord is my Shepard; I shall not want."

That line means that The Lord is guiding us through life and that we shall not want anything else but Him.

Now it's your turn.

Psa 23:2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

In Him is peace

Psa 23: 3 He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. (NASB)

He brings us to 'life', renews us (as in born again spirit/soul) ... and as our Father, teaches us and leads us in the way we need to go and grow, so we can be better ambassadors for Him

Psa 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Even as we walk through troubled times, even to death we don't need to be afraid because He is always with us.
Because He holds the rod of authority and the Good Shepard's staff we can know we are both safe and secure, as He will always be a good and loving Father to us.

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

The Lord is preparing a place for us to be with Him when our enemies are there. And He pours His love over us, and His love runs over.

PS. 23:6 "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."

Eternal security, and thankfulness expressed are mainstays of this verse and notes of a dear pastor added this from a study of these sweet verses. In Psalms. 139:17-18 Out of his thankful heart, David said, "How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand."

Well O.k. Psalm 23:6 made me think along the same lines as Eugene, it comes from the book of Hebrews.. that secure feeling that comes from knowing Jesus

13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Spurgeon had this to say about "I will never leave thee nor forsake thee": What power resides in "Thus saith the Lord!" The man who can grasp by faith, "He hath said," has an all-conquering weapon in his hand. What doubt will not be slain by this to two-edged sword? What fear is that which shall not fall smitten with a deadly wound before this arrow from the bow of God's covenant? Will not the distresses of life and the pangs of death, will not the corruptions within and the temptations without, will not the trials from above and the temptations from beneath all seem but light afflictions when we can hide ourselves behind the bulwark of "He hath said?" Whether for delight in our quietude, or for strength in our conflict, "He hath said" must be our daily resort.

I will start another Psalm.. First this... A million years ago when i was just a bit older than that photo mom or dad would be quoting the 23" The Lord is my Shepard; I shall not want." I could not figure out why they did not want the Lord?

Psa 93:1 The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.
He is my King..He is clothed in righteousness Nothing is greater, stronger then our King.. He is our creator..

That's right reba, nothing is greater nothing is stronger than our King..

Isaiah 42:8 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

That's cute :)

The Lord said to Beltshazzar: 'Thou are weighed in the balances and found wanting'.

Wanting = needing, lacking.

(As also in Psalm 23: 'I shall not want'.)

Psa 93:2 Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting.
His throne was established from the beginning and will be forever. He is the Alpha and the Omega.

Isaiah 6:1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

From the eyes of Isaiah when saw Jesus in all of his glory makes me shiver all over. It reminds me of something Jesus said in the gospel of John chapter 12 verse 32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

Isaiah is one of my favorite books.. :yes
