Question about the crucifixion...

I know that many people say that Jesus had to be pierced through the wrists and not the hands for the hands would not hold the weight of His entire body and even tear through the hands, but I have to ask, would it make a difference if his arms were tied to the cross with the hands pierced while crucified?

Probably would work, But I don't believe that was the purpose. You were suppose to suffer extreme pain of your body weight on the nails. I believe they have even found skeleton remains of the nails going through the wrists

I don't think we can know for sure. Some Lexicon's state that the word for hand meant not only the hand, but included the wrist and fingers as well. The bible doesn't specifically state that He was nailed either through the hands or the wrists. He told John to look at His hands, but if the word could be translated as wrist then we're still no closer to knowing for sure. I think either way, tied and nailed through the hands or nailed through the wrists would achieve excruciating pain.
