Bible Study Question No. 128

I'm confused again.

The Bible says this;
Genesis 1:28a;
"God blessed them and said to them, be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it".
Now this was on the 6th day of creation.

Why did God tell them ahead of time to fill the earth and subdue it when he had only given them the Garden of Eden to live in?

"The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it." - Genesis 2:15

He asked Adam to keep the Garden and work in it, never said he couldn't leave it or that it applied to the whole human race forever. This is all highly hypothetical but if he had had children in the garden I'd assume they could live anywhere they wanted. Also we have no idea how big Eden was, it could've been huge, or tiny we don't really know.

Hi Brother Rollo, to me Genesis Chapter One is more or less an index revisited as God in further chapters fills in the details. I have not examined to see if that remains consistent, but the following seems to verify this. For Instance:

Index
Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Gen 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Gen 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Later
Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Gen 2:8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

I see what you are saying.
The actual time line may be different than how we read it.
I thought of that except he doesn't say it again, so I was wondering...

I can't really answer the question but I do know that everything to do with scripture means something and is very precise. So there is probably a reason for Him to say that when He did.

This, just a random thought and is prolly wrong, lol.

Could the timing of His statement to them have anything to do with the Sabbath? (Which was the next day...)
