In genesis 35:18 it says her soul was departing.Not she was departing.But in psalms 90:10 it says we fly away.Not "our soul flies away".Sorry if i have posted this before.

1 Kings 17:21-22 says, "the child's soul came back to him," not "the child came back."

Psalm 146:4 says, "his spirit departs, he returns to the earth." It does not say "he departs, his body returns to the earth."

Luke 8:55 says, "her spirit returned and she awoke," not "she returned and awoke."

Acts 20:10 says, "his soul is still in him," not "he is still in his body."

Do you see the big difference between genesis and psalms?In my fisrt post? And all the other examples after my first example of genesis and psalms?

Hi Jesus Lover. Good question. Most times the word SOUL is interpreted as our life we have as a breathing creature. Hope this helps.

Gen 35:18 And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.

Today when we die is to be absent from the body is to be present with our Lord.

I believe that if we limit our understanding of how we're made to the bible, we cannot really understand it.

Why?
Because heart is used to mean something
Soul is used to mean something
Spirit is used to mean something

But not Always the same thing!
They change depending on who's writing.

Have you studied both the Dichotomy and Trichotomy of the make-up of a person?

I believe in the trichotomy of the human being: Body, Soul, Spirit
This is a good study and helps a lot when reading the bible.

It could not be gleened only from reading the OT and NT.

Hi again Jesus Lover, I guess I'm missing your point. A person's soul is the breath life they posses. If our body without breath life goes anywhere, it would probably be in the belly of some animal, or the grave.

You reference 1 Kings 17:21-22 saying the child's soul (Breath) came back to him, and that's a very common occurrence with near death experiences of drowning or heart attack victims, and others unconsciousness or resuscitated from a state of death. Where was their soul (breath) in that period of time?

This may be of help: Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

The Hebrew word "Nephesh" (Strong's H5354) is properly interpreted as a breathing creature. Would there also be conscience thought associated with our life? Of course, and in the believer our life departs to be present with our Lord.
2Co 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

I see the difference.
In Genesis her SOUL is departing.
In Psalms, WE go away.

Our SOUL IS US.
We are our soul.
"We" is our soul.

our body is decaying and will not be resurrected until the last day.
But our SOUL, which is US, will live on even after Death.
