THE FIVE C'S
I am British and my land has been the driving force behind much of the missionary efforts of the last two hundred years, sadly my country has fallen from its lofty position. We have to ask why?
Surely this is a warning to countries such as China and especially America. The OT gives us repeated warnings what turning away from God will do. Our Father is merciful and patient, but he is a Father who will reprimand and rebuke his disobedient children.
Backsliding peoples and nations come about because of a slow leak, it's been said that backsliding is never a blowout, it's a slow leak and that truly is the case. It's one little compromise after another, we don't think much of it at first, but after a while, it is like a rolling stone that cannot be stopped.
Jesus gives repeated warnings to the churches in Revelation that he will take away their lampstand, you see so many churches closed and being used for other purposes, these churches were once used of God, but are now empty and lifeless, they are shining no light. Their light has gone out.
Why did this happen and how can we stop it happening?
1 COMPROMISED THE WORD OF GOD
Compromising the word of God is a real problem in the church, calling sin such as homosexuality, deviant behaviour, does not cut it with the Lord. Isaiah says in Chapter 5;20
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!
We have compromised our love and commitment to the Lord, look at the words of Jeremiah. We are drinking dirty water.
Jeremiah 2
“I remember the devotion of your youth,
your love as a bride,
how you followed me in the wilderness,
in a land not sown.
3 Israel was holy to the Lord,
the first fruits of his harvest.
All who ate of it incurred guilt;
disaster came upon them,
declares the Lord.”
13 for my people have committed two evils:
they have forsaken me,
the fountain of living waters,
and hewed out cisterns for themselves,
broken cisterns that can hold no water.
We watch TV more than we study our bibles, we know every single person who plays in our favourite football team, but we can't recite all of the ten commandments. Still thinking you are drinking clean water?

2 CO-OPERATED WITH THE WORLD
Not only have we compromised the word of God, we have left our first love, yes me included. We drink water that is impure, we feast on the world's pleasures, we spend our money on what is pleasing to the eye.
We cannot and will not reach the world, by being like the world, the world is not impressed by people who dress like them, act like them. These people claim to be different, but they act just like us, they do the same things we do, and they claim to have had their lives changed. We are not only to love not the world, but also not to live like it either
We cannot live with one foot in heaven and another in the world, we are citizens of heaven, not citizens of earth Philippians 3;20 1 John 2;15-17 2 Timothy 3;4
3 CONFUSION WITHIN THE CHURCH
When the word of God is watered down and we start to act and live like the world, the church is in limbo, it really has no idea which way to turn, this is why many Christians and churches do not and cannot share the gospel. Firstly, because they have so watered down the truth of scripture, that they cannot share it. How can you share what you don't truly believe?. Only45% of evangelical Christians in America, believe the bible is the word of God. How can they share a book that they don't even believe?
Compromise and Co-operation with the world, leads to confusion within the church, if the church dilutes itself, it will lose its power. Ever seen a drink being diluted, the more diluted it becomes, the taste goes. It starts out as Orange, but the more water is added, the less it tastes like Orange.
How can this be changed?
4.CONFESSION
Praise God, there is a way back for the church. One of the greatest promises comes in 2 Chronicles 7;14-18, and these are great truths. There is forgiveness for a backsliding people, there is grace abundant, but there are warnings. If you do not walk in my ways, I will cut off Israel, they were warned, as we are being warned, but did they listen.. no. What happened when they persisted in their sin and their idolatry?: the consequences were harsh. Confession and repentance have to be real; we have to open before God. We have to humble ourselves before him and say like Ezra, Nehemiah and Daniel did, that my sin is the sin of the nation. Daniel 9, Nehemiah 1 and Ezra 8-9.
5 COMMITMENT AND CONSECRATION
As a church, we need to daily is to offer our lives to God, this is our spiritual act of worship Romans 12:1-2. Every day is a new day, where we can bring our lives afresh to God. Yesterday is gone, we do not live on yesterday's blessings, Israel and Judah lived on those, but they did not understand that they had to give their lives afresh every day.
What must we do, here are some things , that we can do:
We need to have a high regard for the word of God, always placing it first, never undermine the word of God.
Never compromise with the world's standards, we don't need to use the world's methods to reach it.
We need to stand on God's word and God's method for doing things, follow Him. He has the right way. The way he shows is through his word, he has no other roadmap.
Let's drink the pure water God has given us, why do we follow after vain things. Why do we spend hours watching rubbish on TV, whilst our bibles are unused?
We can put prayer at the top of our agenda, as families and churches, why is the prayer meeting the one meeting that hardly anyone goes to?
God is warning us, we have the answer in our own hands, God has made it easy for us. He has put the answer in his word, we either read it and ignore it or we read it and obey it. Joshua 24;15 James 1：22-27
